OK, first off communism isn't ideal i know that, but neither is capitalism. If a country decided to become communist then that is there right, i am aware that it prevents people from become richer or poorer than others but perhaps that is not such a bad thing. If a country wishes to live as such, then they should be allowed to. And in the case of Korea... Korea's leader wanted a unified country. So they enlisted the help of the Soviet Union to try to take control. They helped to try reuniting the country, but there was bound to be resistance as southern Korea leaned towards capitalism. Had the Soviet Union been successful, the korean people would be unified as one country under communism, yes i know, but later that same century communism in the USSR (Russia) disbanded, which would have no doubt have caused other communist countries to follow their example. So not only would Korea be a single country but it could have prevented the deaths of thousands. Same applies with Vietnam. So America's intervention caused far more deaths than they saved. The fact that Russia has more nuclear warheads than america, means nothing. If it weren't for america discovering the atomic bomb, perhaps nuclear weapons wouldn't exist. Therefore the most destructive weapon known to man would not have been created, developed, produced and tested by Americans. Can you really justify such a devastating weapon?

And you went off in a tangent when you said America gives the most to charity. anybody can give to charity, and the reason why America has given so much to charity is because America has a bigger population than other countries.
And i will agree that Russia has made its fair share of 'Cock-ups'. And it was unfair to blame it all on America. In fact it was both the US's fault and Russia's fault. On the other hand though Russia have fought for the betterment of mankind, far more than America. After all, they fought in both world wars, suffering great losses. I think that warrants them some amnesty for the atrocities they caused.

And when did I ever say I thought capitalism was perfect? It's not, but it's the best system we have to pull the most people out of poverty. Capitalism allows people to freely innovate and that's what spurs economic growth. Communism doesn't only stop the growth of personal wealth but it lowers the living standard of all its people (again see North Korea vs South Korea). Capitalist South Korea has around the tenth largest economy in the world while Communist North Korea has near non-existent economy.

Every country does have the right to self-determination so shouldn't the capitalists in the south of Korea have been allowed to make their own nation as they did by your own reasoning?? And ik that the koreans want to be unified, but the vast majority of South Koreans do not want to be communist like the North and I'd assume many would be concerned about the economic fallout of joining with the North today. And north korea is still communist today even tho the ussr has fallen so there is zero reason to believe the situation would be different today if the entire country was unified. Sure many died in the Korean war, but do you know how many of its own ppl north korea kills thru its disastrous policies and thru their horrid gulags? I believe more lives, south korean lives in particular, were saved by the war. And some things, like freedom, are worth fighting and dying for.

Vietnam was poorly conducted. We made many mistakes. But we were fighting for the freedom of others. This is why I love my country, not because I labor under the delusion that the Usa is perfect, but because of its ideals, its effort to realize these ideals, and its people.

You accused the majority of Americans of being selfish psychopaths so showing that the USA gives more to charity than any other country PER CAPITA was hardly going off on a tangent. Per capita means per person in comparison to every other country, even compared to other developed nations, so I hardly thinks it's just because the USA is wealthy. The article is very fair to other nations saying they are sometimes more heavily taxes, etc. I don't think americans are somehow innately better than any other group, but I think the American culture supports Christian generosity, hard work, and efficiency. So this leads to charitable behavior, another reason I love my country.

And, finally, with the choice of contained, controlled nukes or suffering in a communist gulag, I definitely would pick the nukes.

That just goes to show that the Americans would rather destroy the world dozens of times over, and use that weapon as leverage against other nations, than find any peaceful solution to a conflict. Both communism and capitalism are flawed. The main difference is that one has a distinguishable pyramid of wealth. And I really don't understand why you Americans go on about christian values and what-not. I am Atheist and am very respectful of other peoples beliefs, opinions and/or religions. However your country is so fixated on following the christian lifestyle, that you dismiss other religions and cultures, or the disbelief of christianity. For example, I have a mixed culture/race friendship group, and they are all individuals with their own beliefs and opinions. I respect each one of them because they always accept their cultures/religions mistakes. I have a chinese friend who is shocked at what Mao did. I have a American friend who despises the way his country treats the rest of the world. My Indian friend always thought that the relationship between GB and them was one of the greatest things that every happened to his country, yet he understands what Gandhi did was the right thing to do. I also have a part German friend, who hates the fact his country has been black listed, but understands that Germany was wrongly accused in WW1. Even i am not proud of some of the things GB have down to others, the causes for the American revolution for example. I respect your love for your country. But sometimes things our countries do can never be justified so we must accept them and move on. But unfortunately Americans are far too stubborn and proud. Perhaps if you could accept, that these atrocities you caused can not be rightfully justified, then the world would respect you a whole lot more.

And i can't believe that you think killing thousands of people instantly, along with burning the ozone layer (that keeps us alive!) is a great idea! You said controlled nuclear attacks, yet the bomb that fell on Nagasaki was meant for a different city. The plane was running out of fuel so they decided to obliterate a city, that men had sweat and bleed to build, not to mention the men themselves, their families and the entire biological effect it had on that region. Nothing can justify that. The sooner you understand that and get off of your 'high-horse' the sooner your country will be viewed as a benevolent country.

Your previous comment showed me that you believe that "the ends justify the means". "We got our troops killed, but what does it matter? We won! We have helped that country defeat... ITSELF?"

Oh and yet your point about charity is still not relevant. In fact the article states that most of the money goes into churches, which would then benefit your own country's economy. AMERICAN TOP TIP FOR A GOOD ECONOMY: GIVE YOUR MONEY TO YOUR OWN GOVERNMENT! Great advise.

Perhaps i have been too harsh on Americas short-sighted decisions in the past. However i will not stand up for the use of any kind of nuclear weapon, threatening or otherwise. So i suggest you take a good long look at the road you follow... What is at the end?

That's ridiculous; Americans just aren't afraid to fight for what's right and yes sometimes the end does justify the means. If entering a war ends up protecting freedom and saving more lives than are lost, then going to war is almost an imperative. War is serious, of course lives matter, and war should not be used unless necessary, but sometimes it is necessary and moral. For example, WWII.

And yes Capitalist democracy is flawed but it is far, far superior to Communist dictatorships. In capitalism, the government is kept in check so the people are not ruled by Stalin and most people's living standards are improved. It is simply silliness to claim that communism is as equally flawed as capitalism.

I'm actually not a Christian, but I admire my country's Christian ethics. And I do too admire other religions and cultures. I admire my nation's diversity. And I already said anyone who thinks the USA is a flawless, perfect is deluded themselves. I think the nuclear attacks on Japan were tragic, but I think they ended the war quickly saving more lives than the nukes took. The Japanese told enemy POWs that when America invaded the nation, they'd kill every single one of them. They were over 100,000 POWs. The Japanese citizens, many of them at the time, and the Japanese army were willing to fight to the last man. It would be an absolute bloodbath, I believe millions would have died. If my country was just trying to kill as many Japanese as possible, then we would have nuked Tokyo. We didn't, this was a controlled use of nukes.

When did I say using nukes to kill is a great idea? I think it was an absolute last resort, and I hope they are never used again. I think in the nuclear bombing of Japan, we made the best choice available. And it was terrible, but it is likely it saved more lives than were lost even including the toll the radiation took on the population. We were not vicious towards Japan, we helped them rebuild, but they needed to be stopped. and we did stop them with the smallest amount of life lost.

We have never used nuclear weapons again because we have never been in such a desperate situation again. In this day and age, I don't believe they will ever be used again because more countries than ever have them so using them would seriously increasing the chances of creating a global nuclear war which would cost more lives than would ever be saved.

I'm not on some stubborn high horse horse. Ik there are legitimate complaints against my country. I'm not ignorant about the fact we have sometimes abandoned our ideals, supporting dictators for practical purposes and entering wars, imo, iraq, we should not have entered. But I'm always going to admire my country for its ideals, for trying to implement these ideals, and its culture.
