High time to start over again! And this time, have people equally able to run for office based on their ideas and stances rather than being Democrat or Republican. And we can start that with this election; forget the labels... require anyone running for office to answer questions with real answers. No personal attacks; just honest answers to valid questions. How refreshing would that be. Oh and no one could spend more than X dollars on advertising their campaign. Rich or poor, lawyers or businessmen/women, white, black, Asian or any other race.. makes no difference. If you want to run.. run. Man, I'd love that.

"Oh and no one could spend more than X dollars on advertising their campaign." I agree, but it would also require restrictions on the media, as they already use their 24/7 propaganda to pump who they want to be elected, and only restricting the candidates would mean the ones not deemed worthy have a cap on how much they can spend to defend themselves or get their name out there in opposition to the saturation by the corporate propaganda.

I remember a while back .. probably back in the 60s or so when media had to give or chose (I'm not sure) equal time to others running for office. So.. if Obama got an hour on TV, they would provide the same for Romney. I wonder why they no longer have to worry about that. Or perhaps they just ignore it all anymore.. but, that's how I would control it. Any media outlet that devoted on air time to a candidate must provide equal opportunity to the opponents of that candidate. Therefore, most outlets would probably no longer do anything because it would cost them money in the long run or those who do, would limit the amount of time as it wouldn't be economically feasible to back any one individual or party. I'd call it the Neutrality Golden Rule. :)

Ultimately, even if We the People broke the back of corporate propaganda by going out on a grassroots level and campaigning, postering, putting out newsletters, bulletins, and so forth, much like the support for Ron Paul has done, if the voting machines are rigged, the game is over before it starts.

I believe we need two or more viable, legitimate parties more than we currently have.

The Libertarian Party is in all 50 States, and is running a former Governor, Gary Johnson. I believe many will be fleeing the sinking ship of the suicidal Republican party if they choose Mitt or another equally unelectable puppet, along with independents, disillusioned Democrats, etc, and voting for Liberty instead.

When "co-operation" and "compromise" are no longer part of their vocabulary then it is time to expand our viable political parties to five or six like they have in other free countries. Unfortunately with our corrupt form of political fund raising and support that will never happen so we're pretty much doomed to fail in all aspect of our government. I haven't felt that I have any representation for the past 40 years or more. Government just seems to decide what is best for all and may the most powerful party take all or block all until the next go-round.

Both the Democrats and Republicans are totally in the pocket of big business, special interests, and lobbyists, elections will be manipulated and the people will be deceived. This is an absurd front for what Americans believe to be a two-party political system. It covers fraud and helps charlatans and psychopaths cling to power. But the reality is that everybody is wearing the same hat with a different color.

When you consider Obama spending $1 billion, Romney, all the candidates that lost; all the expensive Senate races, Representatives, Governors; that in 10 years ALONE would pay off our debt.

It doesn't look that way, it IS that way. And it's not a two party system, it's a one party system. You'll notice that the arguments made by each party will switch when there's a power shift. The very things the Democrats were complaining about under Bush - deficits, spending, unemployment, etc. - are now the complaints of the GOP with Obama in the WH. It's like watching professional wrestling. They act like they are at odds with each other, but after the cameras stop rolling, they all get together, both sides, with high fives, rubbing each other's backs, having dinner, drinks, and laughing. It's a big facade.

Ever notice how all of the bills that remove our constitutional protections pass with bipartisan votes?
    Yep.

So... who's upholding his/her oath of office in DC? Anyone?
    Nope.

Very true. Everything but Obamacare, that's the only one I can think of that was straight party-line vote, the rest has been a bi-partisan effort to usurp the people.

Right. However, I wouldn't say that the healthcare bill removed our constitutional protections, it simply usurped The Constitution. Fine line, but still. I was referring more to the NDAA, Patriot Act, etc, that directly prevent our constitutional protections from being used. The idea that we can be arrested & detained indefinitely without legal counsel, for example, is simply unbelievable. This is the most simple, basic right that has been around in competitive nations for four or more centuries & was removed two-fold... in both The Patriot Act & the NDAA.
But you're correct about the healthcare bill. I guess that though I thought it was unconstitutional, I never thought of it as removing a constitutional protection.

I find our SCOTUS has also lost its way. It was the one branch of government that, though people often disagreed with, was pretty sure to be on the up-&-up regarding faithfulness to The Constitution. Now, however, I would say that it's time to throw those bastards out as well. Clarence Thomas lying on his taxes, the lot of them making corporations people, the list goes on. I don't necessarily agree with Ginsberg on her every opinion, however it seems to me that she might be the last honest justice on the bench. The rest seem to be bought & paid for as well as Congress. Of course, I could be mistaken... she might be as well.

the two party system is what we want. if you think otherwise look at the voters. ron paul who claims to be a lib runs as a republican. he knows he can never win without the r after his name. the so called third party groups never run for any office besides president. sorry but the voters will never take them serious till they take themselves serious

the Republicans have FAILED to LEAD.

yes they were put into minority status in 2006 (should have been their first clue) and then they lost the POTUS in 2008 (should have been their 2nd clue)... but since then all they can do is stamp their feet and say

NO NO NO NO NO NO
NO NO NO NO NO NO
NO NO NO NO NO NO

that's not what leadership looks like.

My side? You mean us moderate independents that are caught in the middle of the two warring factions? I've been criticizing both sides from the get go. All it's gotten me is a ton of grief from both sides. That isn't gonna silence me though. This is still a free country. At least it was last I heard.

the side you were taking with me...

you want to claim the middle ground, go for it.

but don't expect me to make excuses for the ONE side that holding everything up and don't expect me to let you or anyone off the hook just because they are now "independent"

most of the time all that tells me is that they USED to vote Republican and now they are embarrassed, but they will never admit it.

the ONLY thing truthful about what you said was how the focus is on Obama.

there is a reason for that, but its not because Obama has failed us, its because the media has failed us... and we (some of us) have failed to notice that fact.

I call for an absolute 3 party system. Let Republicans, Democrats and Independents each elect their own Presidential-type representative and then make the 3 work together. This would reduce the constant bickering and polarization and force each group to scrutinize their own parties and representatives more thoroughly.
