    A Founding Father
Actually, only one of the parties has openly and blatantly declined to represent the 98% of the population who have been pillaged and plundered by thirty years of "Reaganomics" and the "conservative agenda". The other party has been working hard to support the majority interests, but Congressional leaders from the plundering party have pledged themselves to prevent any success or achievements in behalf of the "underlings". The "Top 2% Club" reigns, has done so for decades, and has taken more than $27Trillion from the 98% in just thirty years. Care to reinstall them in power to gather what little remains? Choices, so many choices.

But it certainly did a good job of convincing sheep to vote for wolves. two wolves and a sheep

    Nothing wrong with the system.
It was designed by Christian minded men and works well in a Christian based society where people trusted each other and could be trusted. When the people worked hard and voted on election day.
For years most people didn't go vote and stay informed for we were waiting in line to be entertained and the politician changed the world changed and the country lost it's morals. Now we are losing what we were warned about and we now get involved. Too little too late?!
America is like a healthy body and its resistance is threefold: its patriotism, its morality, and its spiritual life. If we can undermine these three areas,
America will collapse from within. ~Joseph Stalin

That's very good but the Founding Fathers knew that, while they encouraged the people to learn about their government, they also knew that in a society where people would be free to achieve; they would be so involved in their businesses, organizations, churches, families, ect, that they wouldn't always have the time to learn what was happening in government. That is the reason that under the original plan, the Senators were elected by the States and the President was elected by the Electoral College. The 12th and 17th amendment have changed that and have been very damaging to the republic. Here are two short, but very interesting books which you may be interested in reading. Good day!

The Founders realized that government is necessary in order to check the evils of human nature in society. They also recognized, having fought and bled in order to free themselves from a tyrant, that firm limits on power are needed in order to check the evils of human nature within the government. That has become weak and broken.
I know Life in general was a lot different before the 1900's. The Electoral College was being corrupted by bribery and corruption. The 17th Amendment did away with all the ambiguity with a simple premise that the Senators would be chosen by the people, just as Representatives are. Now the candidates now had to cater to hundreds of thousands, or millions, of people instead of just a few hundred.
The 12th Amendment passed in 1804 ment the Electors were directed to vote for a President and for a Vice President rather than for two choices for President.and the loser becoming the Vice President.

Yes there are many problems with the two party system. Washington railed against political parties in his farewell address. The Framers never intended for us to have the current system we have, The 12th Amendment should be repealed and we should go back to the original Electoral College system. EVERY AMERICAN SHOULD READ THIS BOOK!

While the Democrat party represents the far-left very well, the GOP refuses to become a hard-core opposition conservative party, as far to the right, as the Dems are to the left.

This is one of the other dangers of the two party system. The parties become identical and then you have a one party system, or a dictatorship. Karl Marx like the two party system. It's brought up in the Communist manifesto.

Anyone who thinks that either party has the interest of the people in their plans hasn't accepted reality. Republicans that stand up say their party has the plan are clueless and the same goes for the Democrats. Of course, the American people are the ones to really blame because they voted for these people.

I can't say as I blame you but we must NOT let Obama have a second term or he will destroy the republic. If you vote third party, you are throwing your vote away. I wish we could abolish this horrible two party system and return to the genius system the Framers left us.

My nose is still sore from when I voted for McCain. I just wanted to keep Obama away from the White House. McCain was just minutely better. It's ashame our country can't get two better candidates than that. Our ancestors did us no favors when they abandoned the Original Electoral College.

It needs to go back to the way it was before the 80's-to when Republicans stood for all economic classes and voted family values, and to when Democrats were classical liberals (instead of progressive liberals) who had nothing to do with Communism/Socialism or promoting what many would consider moral decay.
