Keep taxing success and the whole thing goes down the drain lefty. How about democrats focus more on teaching people SELF RELIANCE? Yeah right... Wouldn't that be something? If this obama care thing doesn't get repealed I guarantee you that you will be seeing MANY jobs lost and for GOOD reason. It's getting impossible to do business in the U.S. You are obviously blind to this idea. You should read the bird feeder theory.

I am all for the Affordable Healthcare Act. This will provide children with pre-existing conditions health care, and not be dropped! Seniors to have proper care and prescriptions. Low income families proper health care coverage!
Plus you have the option of keeping your own heath coverage if you want!!

Obamacare or the Affordable Care Act will be the best thing that has happened to this country in many, many years. Finally, most Americans will have coverage and access to quality healthcare no matter how poor they are or if they're unemployed or any other circumstance. Most people will be less for insurance and some may even get a refund at the end of the year if the insurance company you use doesn't spend at least 80% of the premiums collected directly on healthcare. That's cash in your pocket.
Before you go condemning the bill, read it and see what it actually does. The same type of plan is working well in Massachusetts and most people like it.

Is health care really a bad thing for Americans? Whenever I visit the United States and have to use my benefit card I constantly have people asking me how I'm paying next to nothing after the staff swipes it.

It's criminal to see people having to choose between a place to live and going to the hospital in some cases. As healthcare should be something everyone gets, where I am it's part of the taxes we pay, nobody notices, and you never have to worry about getting sick.

Really Lucy?!! Millions of Americans are uninsured! Sure you can go but will have to PAY Full cost, unlike insured. Millions do not get health care because they can not afford it, and can not pay the bills that come in. What you are saying is only partial truth!! And we have always had to pay for costs, this just gives others the same options insured people do without worrying about wages getting garnished because they could not pay a 21,000 bill for emergency costs for their loved one or self!! Think about that, look up Affordable health Care Plan and then rant and rave about how bad it is or is not...

I totally agree with you. I don't know why Americans are so afraid of this healthcare plan. I really think it's because one side is lying about what the Affordable Care Act will mean for all Americans. It's all political. I just hope Obama wins again so that we will at last be able to move forward on healthcare like the rest of the civilized world.

Not sure what your point is. Don't know if you are employed right now and health insurance through your employer but if you are, let's say you're laid off tomorrow or fired. You loose your health care coverage. Sometimes insurers will let you keep some kind of plan but good luck paying for it and hopefully you haven't been ill because they will place restrictions on existing illnesses. In other word, no coverage for conditions you already have.
How would that work out for you? Could you afford to pay for your medication, office visits, emergency room if you have an accident, etc.? Not many people would be able to pay. You could lose your home and go bankrupt due to any condition or illness that could not be treated because you can't afford it.
We need this healthcare law so that this doesn't happen to any American and so that all Americans can received the medical care they need when they need it. It's all good. I don't understand why people are so opposed to having healthcare for all.

It's a step towards SOCIALISM period.. Why can't you see that? America became what it is today because people were allowed to PROSPER-through-CAPITALISM.. The food in YOUR cupboards isn't MY responsibility, YOUR healthcare isn't MY responsibility. But that's what the democrats tell the masses.. You want healthcare go buy it YOURSELF! I have several employee's that I provide insurance for because they WORK for ME.. If you think my costs are going down because of this you are definitely out of your mind. You watch and see how many jobs are lost because of this move.. I know I won't be hiring for a VERY long while.. At least until this garbage is repealed. BTW.... My insurance rates just nearly DOUBLED! Any guesses as to why that is?

I don't know you and you don't know me. That said, I believe that we are bound by our humanity to help those among us who are unable to help themselves or who are down on their luck for whatever reason.

If a family in my neighborhood or someone I knew had no food, I would buy them food and help them as much as I could. I am not a Christian but this is the Christian thing to do. It's also the humane thing to do.

I worked in the health insurance business for 27 years and our rates went up each and every year so your rates going up is not new. The reason they go up is that hospitals have to charge exorbitant fees to cover those who arrive at the ER or hospital without insurance. You can't really blame them. They have to pay the bills too. So, the best thing to do is have everyone insured and paying something so that prices can be allowed to stabilize or even go down.

Also insurance company rates are padded as well for the very same reason. A lot of young healthy people think they don't need health insurance so they don't buy it. But, all of a sudden they are in an accident or get sick suddenly and where do the end up? At the hospital! And who pays for that. You, and I and everyone else who has insurance.

So wouldn't the smart thing be to make sure that everyone is covered whether they are young and healthy or older and ill? It spreads the cost around much more fairly.

This bill also mandates that health insurance companies spend 80% of insurance premiums collected on actual health care. That's not a requirement now and a lot of insurance companies use your premiums to pay exceedingly high salaries to their top executives. That's not right either and it will have to stop once this bill is enacted.

Health care for all is a good thing, not a bad thing. What's bad is turning your back on your fellow human being and not at least trying to provide healthcare for everyone.

    The Bird Feeder Analogy

I bought a bird feeder. I hung it on my back porch and filled it with birdseed. What a beauty of a bird feeder it was, as I filled it lovingly with seed. Within a week we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous flow of free and easily accessible food.

But then the birds started building nests in the boards of the patio, above the table, and next to the barbecue. Then came the poop! It was everywhere, on the patio tile, the chairs, the table…everywhere!

Then some of the birds turned mean. They would dive bomb me and try to peck me even though I had fed them out of my own pocket. The other birds were boisterous and loud. They sat on the feeder and squawked and screamed at all hours of the day and night and demanded that I fill it when it got low on food.

After a while, I couldn’t even sit on my own back porch anymore. So I took down the bird feeder and in three days the birds were gone. I cleaned up their mess and took down the many nests they had built all over the patio.

Soon, the back yard was like it used to be…quiet, serene and no one demanding their rights to a free meal.

    Now let’s see…..

Our government gives out free food, subsidized housing, free medical care, and free education and allows anyone born here to be an automatic citizen.

    Then...

Then the illegals came by the tens and hundreds of thousands, millions. Suddenly our taxes went up to pay for free services; apartments are housing 5 families; you have to wait 6 hours to be seen by an emergency room doctor; your child’s 2nd grade class is behind other schools because half the class doesn’t speak English. Corn Flakes now come in a bilingual box; I have to ‘press one’ to hear my bank talk to me in English, and people waving flags other than ‘Old Glory’ are squawking and screaming in the streets, demanding more rights and free liberties. When asked why they breed like cockroaches, the reply is that it is a cultural thing.

Just my opinion but, maybe its time for the government to take down the bird feeder.

True, we did COBRA for 6 months while my husband was laid-off. We were fortunate enough to do so. There are Tens of Thousands that have been laid off and can not afford this, so they either turn to Welfare[medi-cal] or just let their health go, and pick and choose when they should get care for themselves and children because they can not afford to pay those outrageous hospital bills and prescriptions!!

The change does not affect insulin, even if purchased without a prescription, or other health care expenses such as medical devices, eye glasses, contact lenses, co-pays and deductibles. This standard applies only to purchases made on or after Jan. 1, 2011. A similar rule went into effect on Jan. 1, 2011, for Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), and Archer Medical Savings Accounts (Archer MSAs). Employers and employees should take these changes into account as they make health benefit decisions. For more information, see news release IR-2010-95, Notice 2010-59, Revenue Ruling 2010-23 and our questions and answers. FSA and HRA participants can continue using debit cards to buy prescribed over-the-counter medicines, if requirements are met. For more information, see news release IR-2010-128 and Notice 2011-5.

In addition, starting in 2013, there are new rules about the amount that can be contributed to an FSA. While the health care reform bill was less than what some of us had hoped it would be, it was a huge win for every patient in the U.S. nonetheless. For starters, it means insurance companies can no longer impose lifetime caps on coverage, and won’t be able to deny you (or your kids) coverage due to pre-existing conditions. They can’t drop you if you get sick either. Additionally, most preventative services for which you previously would have had a co-pay will now be free. And, starting in 2014, insurance companies will be required to include maternity coverage in their plans.
