Rave If You Think Ronald Reagan Was One Of The WORST Presidents In US History

1. Reagan cut taxes for the Rich, increased taxes on the Middle Class -

Ronald Reagan is loved by conservatives and was loved by big business throughout his presidency and there's a reason for it. When Reagan came into office in January of 1981, the top tax rate was 70%, but when he left office in 1989 the top tax rate was down to only 28%. As Reagan gave the breaks to all his rich friends, there was a lack of revenue coming into the federal government. In order to bring money back into the government, Reagan was forced to raise taxes eleven times throughout his time in office. One example was when he signed into law the Tax Equity and Fiscal Responsibility Act of 1982. Reagan raised taxes seven of the eight years he was in office and the tax increases were felt hardest by the lower and middle class.

2. Tripling the National Debt -

As Reagan cut taxes for the wealthy, the government was left with less money to spend. When Reagan came into office the national debt was $900 billion, by the time he left the national debt had tripled to $2.8 trillion.

3. Iran/Contra -

In 1986, a group of Americans were being held hostage by a terrorist group with ties to Iran. In an attempt to free the hostages, Ronald Reagan secretly sold arms and money to Iran. Much of the money that was received from the trade went to fund the Nicaragua Contra rebels who were in a war with the Sandinista government of Nicaragua. When the scandal broke in the Untied States it became the biggest story in the country, Reagan tried to down play what happened, but never fully recovered.

4. Reagan funded Terrorists -

The attacks on 9/11 by al-Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden brought new attention to international terrorism. All of a sudden, Americans coast to coast wore their American flag pins, ate their freedom fries and couldn't wait to go to war with anyone who looked like a Muslim. What Americans didn't realize was that the same group that attacked the United States on 9/11 was funded by Ronald Reagan in the 1980s. Prepping for a possible war with the Soviet Union, Ronald Reagan spent billions of dollars funding the Islamist mujahidin Freedom Fighters in Afghanistan. With billions of American dollars, weapons and training coming their way, the Taliban and Osama Bin Laden took everything they were given and gave it back to the United States over a decade later in the worst possible way imaginable.

5. Unemployment issues -

When Ronald Reagan came into office 1981, unemployment was at 7.5%. After Reagan cut taxes for the wealthy, he began raising taxes on the middle and lower class. Corporations started to ship more jobs out of the United States while hiring cheap foreign labor in order to make a bigger profit. While corporations made billions, Americans across the country lost their jobs. As 1982 came to a close, unemployment was nearly 11%. Unemployment began to drop as the years went on, but the jobs that were created were low paying and barely helped people make ends meet. The middle and lower class had their wages nearly frozen as the top earners saw dramatic increases in salary.

6. Ignoring AIDS -

By the time the 1980s came around, AIDS had become one of the most frightening things to happen to the country in recent memory. No one understood what AIDS and HIV really was and when people don't understand something, they become scared of it. The fear of the unknown was sweeping across the country and Americans needed a leader to speak out about this horrible virus, that leader never came. Instead of grabbing the bull by the horns and taking charge, Reagan kept quiet. Reagan couldn't say the words AIDS or HIV until seven years into his presidency, a leader not so much.

7. Reagan gave amnesty to 3 million Undocumented Immigrants -

In today's GOP, the idea of any immigrant staying in the United States whether they are legal or illegal isn't something that conservatives embrace. What might shock them is that in 1982 Ronald Reagan gave nearly 3 million undocumented workers amnesty. The biggest reason for undocumented workers coming to the United States is because corporations hire them at a cheaper rate than they would an American citizen. All the laws that would have cracked down on companies who hire undocumented workers were, of course, removed from the bill.

8. His attack on Unions and the Middle Class - The Republican war on unions and the middle class has been heating up in states like Wisconsin and Ohio, but it has been going on for a long time. Unions are formed to give a united voice to the workers in an attempt to create fairness between the corporations and their employees. On August 3rd, 1981, PATCO (Professional Air Traffic Controllers Organization) went on strike in an effort to get better pay and safer working conditions. Two days later, taking the side of business, Ronald Reagan fired 11,345 workers for not returning to work.

Clinton didn't stick with trickle down. He raised the highest income brackets while lowering the rate on middle and lower income brackets. He also lowers capital gains taxes. Even then republicans screamed and cried the sky was falling, all while over 25 million jobs were being created, along with even more millionaires.

and in 1994, in thanks for raising those taxes, the republicans swept out the democrats in the biggest wave election until 2010 when the next wave election drove out more.

let's see if 2012 will sweep even more democrats out than the election of 2010.

Even his kids, Ron Jr. and Patti, knew he sucked. They had to explain many issues to him, including his reluctance to do anything about AIDS. Jimmy Carter had solar panels installed at the White House but Reagan had them removed when he took office. He said no one was going to tell him he had to use an alternative energy source and that oil was the best thing going.

I truly believe that Reagan was a good man, but he was not a "hands on" president. He let his cabinet run the country and they were a pretty evil bunch. He just read the teleprompter and was much better than Obama at ad libbing. His administration marked the exponential hastening of our economic demise.

In the list of losers..even though they think their big money will win the election I say the little people know and they will vote for Obama no matter how much money was raised. Remember that we are used to living on slim means...we make decisions on what is best for the country rather than what is best for the rich to line their pockets. I wish all the people who make less than that famous $250T per year would simply sit down and refuse to wait on them. do their laundry, make their cars, build their houses, nanny their children etc etc. Wouldn't that be a riot as they flop and flounder because they don't know how to do anything except cheat people out of money they work for!

With a curve like that, any "successes" are just a temporary illusion. We are still pursuing the same failed trickle down and supply side economic policies. Under Obama, the curve is off of the chart, much higher and steeper.

there are less jobs now, than there were in 1985.

there are 46Million people on food stamps. 23M unemployed. unemployment is dropping because more people are abandoning the work force than are getting hired. growth is down to 1.5% and expected to go into recession next March.

so HOW much good has Obama done?

none. he's a Jimmy Carter style failure...

No he is not a failure you are listening to Fox too much. Not only did he stop the bleed out of jobs but he has had steady new jobs for, I believe, last 30 months. So, after we got past the worst problems from the Republican 8 years of destruction he stopped the bleeding and started bringing out new jobs. You are a typical American and want instant gratification. Unfortunately, a devastated country does not recover quickly. He told us when he was elected that recovery would not be quick or easy but that we would recover. It is happening every day Yes there are still people without jobs but if he had not put the brakes on a runaway economy we would be in much worse condition. Just imagine 4 years of continued job loss for the four years he has been in office; I am convinced we would be over the cliff by now.
  • beavith1 TrudyGirl 2012/10/08 21:44:34

its not Fox. Its Dept of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics.

you're argument is nonsensical. we can't know what did or didn't happen because of what we did or didn't do.

that's nothing but speculation, yet you treat it as some sort of 'fact'.

we have had continual job loss since he took over. we have fewer people working now than in 1985.

Obama tells us that he created 5 million new jobs, yet less are working now than in 1985?

    that's not possible.

but don't believe me. go to the DOL BLS stats yourself...

    we're suffering badly....

the job participation rate is dropping. even as you get a job, other jobS are vanishing.

7.8% unemployment is terrible. 14.7% U6 is unconscionable. and that number doesn't take into account those that have retired or are collecting disability.

    Obama has failed us all.
  • TrudyGirl beavith1 2012/10/11 13:34:02

No the Republican members of Congress have failed all of us with their constant partisan behavior and busily trying to force their will on a country in dire need of help. They set out to force Obama to do things their way and "make him a one term president" while blocking everything he tried to accomplish. Look in the mirror if you are a Republican and you will see the real culprit. It is not Obama it is a greedy self centered group of people who are going to have it their way or kill the country by not allowing progress in a bad time.

    LOL!

every minority party wants to become the majority party. do you think that Pelosi and Reid vowed to work closely with W?

    what are you? an infant?

Obama has no ideas that don't include spending other people's money.

his vision of progress is growing gov't into a full blown nanny state. he couldn't care less about poverty. he couldn't care less about growth. its all about making the gov't so big that it turns us all into democrats forever.

look at Japan. they tried to spend their way out of their real estate bust in 1992. observers call that Japan's Lost Decade. and that's EXACTLY the steps that Obama and the democrats are following now.
  • TrudyGirl beavith1 2012/10/15 02:10:12
    TrudyGirl
Not an infant unless you call 66 and infant. A country does not make progress by way of greed. There is way more to it than money and if you have not figured that out then you are right where you belong on the side of the Mitt. Obama has done most of the things he said he would do..get us out of Iraq, bring down war criminals from 9-11, does the name bin Laden ring a bell, how about at least getting some kind of health reform started. Done; and many other things as well. But you choose to wear blinders.

I will guarantee that I have lived more life in 66 years than you will if you live to be 100. I have never backed down and neither does my President. At the polls on November 6. We will continue this in 2012 when you are desperately seeking another viable candidate who does not care about the country or the people in it.

    sorry. you're acting it though.

'progress' in a political context is a meaningless democrat buzzword.

    sheesh.

Obama 'got us out of Iraq' on Bush's schedule.
Seal Team 6 killed OBL. It's appalling that BHO takes ANY credit for that kill.
this isn't 'starting' health care reform. its dynamiting the health care industry and the economy too.

its not blinders that i'm wearing. my eyes are WIDE OPEN.

so what? if you're wrong at 66, you're wrong at 66. our life experiences are irrelevant when you compare how badly off the economy is and how badly the prospect of growth in the future is being hammered. what will you do when the burden of paying your SS is too great for the working public to afford?

who are you kidding? Obama's ony care is making sure that he gets re elected. if 47M can be on food stamps and 23 M people are unemployed, with no prospect of changing in the NEXT four years, you'd have to be inane to double down on his already demonstrated failure...
