Republican Rep. Joe Walsh of Illinois is under fire this Fourth of July for complaining that his Democratic challenger, a veteran who lost her legs in Iraq, talks too much about her military service.

Tammy Duckworth, a Black Hawk pilot, was awarded the Purple Heart after her helicopter was hit by an RPG in 2004. She lost her legs and some use of her right arm in the explosion.

At a town hall meeting on Sunday, Walsh complained that he is “running against a woman who, I mean my God, [military service] is all she talks about.”

The first-term congressman also suggested that Duckworth is not a “true hero,” while comparing her unfavorably to Arizona Sen. John McCain.

It's funny how democrats, who have a long history of hating the military and all that it stands for, play this up to their advantage.

As a Vet I am proud to call Barack Obama my President.

Barak Obama has done more for Vets than you care to know. . President Barack Obama signed a bill significantly boosting federal support for disabled military veterans and their caregivers. Among other things, the new law expands resources available for veterans' mental health counseling, provides expanded access to hospitals and clinics outside of the traditional Veterans Affairs system and provides stronger transportation and housing assistance for veterans living in rural areas.

Obama passed legislation to improve care and slash red tape for our wounded warriors recovering at places like Walter Reed. He passed laws to help homeless veterans and offered an innovative solution to prevent at-risk veterans from falling into homelessness.

Obama led a bipartisanto try to halt the military's unfair practice of discharging for having a service-connect psychological problems.

That's Dumb and makes no sense. Just as bad an argument as saying guns don't kill people, people kill people. Laws don't make people become deadbeads...people make decisions on their own to become deadbeats. Its a moral issue on taking care of your responsibilities. Even if you can't pay it all, pay some atleast your trying to do something which is more than dead beat Joe... a dead beat doesn't try at all.

Hating the cause and hating the ones fighting for the cause are two different things. The military has generally been made up of poor whites, minorities, and less fortunate young men and women that didn't have college as an option right out of high school and or very good job opportunities. There are those who volunteer from middle class and upper middle class, but historically not always the case. These people overwhelmingly have been democrats. Democrats in politics have often had to stand up against the unjustified use of our military on many occasions to help make sure our soldiers were being treated fairly abroad and at home. No one hates the military. We all agree that the military is a vital part of our countries defense. It's the missions we involve our military in that cause so much division among the parties and society in general. For republicans, a stronger military means more defense contracts for their corporate donors. This means more money. It's easy for them to tout military increases as being necessary to thwart any attacks and potential attacks from our enemies, but it's really about helping keeping big defense contractors in the black.

Was it republicans that were literally SPITTING on returning Vietnam vets?

Was it republicans that went to Hanoi and aided the enemy while American GI's were tortured in North Vietnamese prison camps?

Was it republicans that lead the anti-war movement while George W Bush was in office; the same anti war protestors that have suspiciously gone silent when their pro baby killing, pro sodomite Kenyan born Marxist President continued the military presence in the Middle East?

Save your liberal song and dance for someone that doesn't know any better.

Never said any of the above were republicans. however...I can bet your bottom dollar it wasn't conservative republicans who mostly fought and died for this country during vietnam. Yes there were a few republicans I'm sure, but most of them vietnam boys were poor to middle class whites, black and hispanic, asians and other minorities, who would not have been considered republicans by todays standard. Thanks to the anti war movement during bush's term it help shed some light on the lies that were told which caused us to go to war in the first place. These lies helped lead to over 4000 soilders dying in a country we had no business being in in the first place. Had we been where we should of been, that number would of been a lot less and Osama would of been captured by now and the war end earlier, but noooooooo, it took a democrat to end the war and get us out of that mess and bring our sons and daughters back home in time for the holidays and of course to kill that master mind SOB Bin Laden who was smarter than bush to evade capture for so many years.
