I'm a little discouraged about sub-Sahara Africa. It seems they live in a region that has unpredicatable periodic droughts.

I watched an NATGO film about over weight people and a lot of it concerned the practice of force feeding little girls, complete with torture, to make them over eat to grow up fat and "beautiful."

In the Mauritania culture the uncertainity of the food supply has made fat women, complete with the resultant heart, diabetes and arthritis problems, seem beautiful.

Maybe any food aid should be spent on seting up a cannery where food could be stored up for hunger times.

Were not lazy, We do pay taxes, & we should have a say as to how our money is spent

We do have a say, every time there is an election. When those who represent us don't do as we say, we vote them out!

Not if the only person left to take the job will give more taxes to wars

We need more of our money going to the Military and less to welfare and food stamps. When America is attacked, it will be the military, not the welfare bums, that will save our hides.

Hypothetically speaking, if I were a foreign power hell bent on attacking America, I'd take my time and plan it out. I'd pose as an ally and favored trade partner. I'd spend many years, even decades, transferring American's manufacturing power to my country. I'd also buy up a lot of energy and communications companies, especially anything connected to the national power grid and various communications hubs like cable tv networks, radio, telephone and internet infrastructure. At the same time I'd buy up land in rural areas and construct secret military bases. I'd also create businesses that normally deal with a large flow of foreign people and international cargo, like high rise hotels near international airports and shipping docks. I'd find a way to smuggle millions of soldiers in as tourists and military equipment in pieces labeled "car parts" or whatever. When I'm ready to launch my first strike, I'd already be in every back yard, and I'd do it on a Christmas eve, while the active armed forces are half way around the world and the rest are home for the holidays.

My point is, the 2nd amendment is the only security America has.

I, like millions of other Americans, will be ready to protect our families, homes and country because of the second amendment. It is the original homeland security.

Here's a tip. It's not practicle for most people to itemize charitable donations, but if you give 0 to charity for three years, then give a big sum in the fourth year it's easier to itemize.
To go one better, if you want to contribute to starving people you can work through the Mennonites and other highly organized groups.
If you buy stock, real estate or a Rembrant that appreciates, if you set up a charitable account with the Mennonites you can donate the appreciated item.
Then on your tax return you are allowed to deduct the current/appreciated value of the donated asset from your taxable income.
That way you get a deduction for the appreciated value WITHOUT having had to declare the appreciated value as income.

Then I guess you can give me back the $4,000 a year in taxes I pay

Above all else we should take care of our own and that includes food, shelter and education and keeping our military strong. Keeping a strong military doesn't mean invading countries like we did in Iraq.

We really need to become the nation that we're supposed to be. Dedicated to helping those in need and making sure that what they get what they need. Every person deserves the right to food, healthcare, and an education.

Not just on the poor, but on all of society ...
