Rave If You Agree With Letter of Resignation Sent By President George HW Bush to National Rifle Association

Dear Mr. Washington,

I was outraged when, even in the wake of the Oklahoma City tragedy, Mr. Wayne LaPierre, executive vice president of N.R.A., defended his attack on federal agents as “jack-booted thugs.” To attack Secret Service agents or A.T.F. people or any government law enforcement people as “wearing Nazi bucket helmets and black storm trooper uniforms” wanting to “attack law abiding citizens” is a vicious slander on good people.

Al Whicher, who served on my [ United States Secret Service ] detail when I was Vice President and President, was killed in Oklahoma City. He was no Nazi. He was a kind man, a loving parent, a man dedicated to serving his country — and serve it well he did.

In 1993, I attended the wake for A.T.F. agent Steve Willis, another dedicated officer who did his duty. I can assure you that this honorable man, killed by weird cultists, was no Nazi.

John Magaw, who used to head the U.S.S.S. and now heads A.T.F., is one of the most principled, decent men I have ever known. He would be the last to condone the kind of illegal behavior your ugly letter charges. The same is true for the F.B.I.’s able Director Louis Freeh. I appointed Mr. Freeh to the Federal Bench. His integrity and honor are beyond question.

Both John Magaw and Judge Freeh were in office when I was President. They both now serve in the current administration. They both have badges. Neither of them would ever give the government’s “go ahead to harass, intimidate, even murder law abiding citizens.” (Your words)

I am a gun owner and an avid hunter. Over the years I have agreed with most of N.R.A.’s objectives, particularly your educational and training efforts, and your fundamental stance in favor of owning guns.

However, your broadside against Federal agents deeply offends my own sense of decency and honor; and it offends my concept of service to country. It indirectly slanders a wide array of government law enforcement officials, who are out there, day and night, laying their lives on the line for all of us.

You have not repudiated Mr. LaPierre’s unwarranted attack. Therefore, I resign as a Life Member of N.R.A., said resignation to be effective upon your receipt of this letter. Please remove my name from your membership list.

Sincerely,

[ signed ] George Bush

As a man and a leader, I always thought the Senior Bush was a wise man. His son, bearing the same name, was a spoiled twit with no sense of responsibility and unfortunately destroyed the legacy his father would have left future generations of Americans.

The NRA has always been a coop'd movement, the Bushes were always state-worshiping dogs, and we should quit insulting thugs by comparing them with federal agents - thugs have somewhat a sense of humor and don't lie nearly as much as any federal agent.

I still don't get why we need assault rifles. Even limiting that would help. Just based on the past 3 publicized mass shootings alone.

This letter to the NRA is dated May 3, 1995. That was almost 18 years ago. What moron came up with this? Bush was upset at Lapierre's comments in the wake of the Bombing of the federal building in Oklahoma City. And the Constitution guarantees each American citizen has the right of "Free Speech", Lapierre was expressing that right 18 years ago.

The answers are designed to elicit agreement. Of course Bush is going to proceed this way. The agencies and people he describes are there to protect the "bigshots" like the President. They protect the VIP's from everyday joes and other malcontents. Look at Waco or Ruby Ridge! These agencies are there to keep US under control!

A mom and her family died in Newton. The press quickly turned her into the poster mom for gun control. So, blame the NRA! Single moms with trouble in the home ought to be banned from owning guns. Besides, Newton agrees. Perhaps, they blame her for not saving the school from her troubles. Rest in Peace Lanza family. We are sorry for failing you all when you needed us the most. Please, forgive us! Please!

You do realize Nancy Lanza was involved with the "prepper" movement, which urges readiness for social chaos by hoarding supplies, guns, ammo and training with weapons, dont you? When paranoia strikes it affects the entire community as it did in Newtown. The only way we as a nation could have failed her was to stir the hate and discontent. Are you a hater?

Guns are NOT the problem it's nut cases, Timothy McVeigh didn't have a gun but he was a nut who killed over 150 people and fuel, fertilizer, and the rental of box vans are still legal. I'm proud to be a life member of the NRA and see what they're trying to tell America as a good thing but there's way too many liberal loons who just don't get it because of a complete lack of common sense.

Actually I do, I think a check of a persons mental capability and/or if they have a history of mental problems is in order. Too many nut cases have been able to purchase weapons of all kinds.

I am a PROUD MEMBER of the IRA..

I firmly believe that GUNS do NOT KILL PEOPLE.. LOONS with GUNS KILL PEOPLE.

Fully automatic weapons are controlled by federal law. (You hold the trigger down.. weapon keeps firing.) Ideally you fire in three round 'controlled burtst"

If you note... the weapons the CRAZY used WERE owned by his MOM a LOON in her own right.

NRA does more TRAINING on weapons use than any other organization OTHER THAN THE MILITARY.

A trained SHOOTER can exchange magiizines within seconds.

I have been Range OFFICER training MILITARY OFFICERS on small Arms in a previous life.

Only trained professionals should be used to TRAIN OTHERS. and in the event we need ARMED GUARDS... That is a good Job for Trained MILITARY PERSONAL.
