I have to admit .. as soon as the mention of 'corporate welfare' happened ..
I tend to tune out ..
for I know what goes on in terms of the build of costs that end up being part and parcel of why prices of goods/services are what they are nowadays ..
and I am well aware of how corporate tax rates are set .. as well as how the various 'segments' (err .. product lines/industries) set their profit margins as well .. (and what percentage of that is available to reinvest in the business for future needs)

Subsidies for billions, special favors for big business, tax cuts, loopholes and holidays. That is what corporate welfare is!

    It's just a ho-hum strawman that is based on fear-mongering ..
  • Brendan... sglmom 2015/03/19 02:45:39
    Brendan Davison
how? Its a definition. A straw man would be an argument that is meant to be defeated, commonly used by trolls. This is the actual definition.
  • sglmom Brendan... 2015/03/19 19:46:50
    sglmom
It is NOT A definition ..
it is just another of the strawmen (fearmongering excuses) that is just a laughable -- for it well demonstrates the lack of knowledge of how business operates, the lack of understanding of what goes into (and how to keep a business running including the necessary reinvestment in terms of both infrastructure and research/development) as well as a lack of understanding of the build up of costs to come up with the price of goods/services to the consumer ..

Ralph! Where have you been? We were just talking about Ralph Nader and wondering why no one's heard from him during the run up to the campaign. We should end corporate welfare. Don't know Pacifica Network is but I'll look it up.

It is very simular to what I want to do. GET RID of the Corporate tax code all together and implace the personal tax code with no dependants deduction no interest deduction for personal property or homes for anyone. OVERALL the tax rate for everyone would be lower. Every CITIZEN (since Citizens United makes corporations citizens) tax them at the same rate as the regular guy.

:) I figure the effective rate would drop to about 16-18%. across the board.

Well you know my position on the monetary system, however, as long as we're going to continue having this cancerous system, you proposal make sense, I like it. I would go further, and either get rid of corporations all together, or start enforcing the sheets of paper called laws in the legal system of the federal governments, and the individual states that do enable the government to SHUT A CORPORATION DOWN if it's not performing a public good, you can remove a corporation's charter, putting it out of business, and corporations SHOULD NOT have rights of real people, individuals in charge of corporations, CEOs, executives, should be subject to CRIMINAL prosecution just as an individual is, my punishment would not be putting them in a concentration camp, I am against those, I am for shutting those down, put them on a desert island, and let them fend for themselves.

OH don't get me wrong Corporation must not have the leagal standing of individuals, but under Citizens United SCOTUS decision they do, so they are no longer corporations but individuals and as such corporate tax codes no longer apply. Hence, equipment depreciation, investment credits etc all this extra stuff that they get to deduct before taxes no longer applies and they will have to pay just like anyone else.

    BIG SMILEY FACE.

You miss interpert what I was trying to say. That is the way my theory of what should be happening to the tax code. That is NOT what is really happening.

Oh too. one of the neat things is that an individual is limited. look under campaign finance law.

    http://www.fec.gov/pages/broc...

Hence it is my theory that corportions, pacs, superpacs are all to be held to the same restrictions.

    Another consequence of being greedy

Only a "kook" wouldn't take him seriously!

My first vehicle was a VW bus. After two engines failed I put a Corvair pancake 6 in it. With the added horsepower and the extra weight behind the back axle, it would quite easily do wheelies!
