years ago i had a drinking buddy that was a tent preacher when he could afford the tent . he told me something that stayed with me . " if i do a kick ass job of preaching hellfire and brimstone there wont be a dry crotch in the house ". so its always been about arousal thru religion .

Most definitely ! These leaders need to be time warped back to the 14th century. In all the years of the churches existence, haven't they learned anything ? It takes hundreds of years to even acknowledge that Galileo was correct . The church is a millstone about the necks of all it's followers . They would rather remain ignorant lemmings than question it's authority. Stop contributing to their coffers and see how quick they will sit up and listen to the demands of the followers. Better yet, acknowledge that the supernatural does not and can not exist and become your own good person rather than a brainwashed fool !

There are three big strains mixed to make Catholicism - mystical rituals and hierarchy from Mithraism, misogynist anti-sexual morality from Paul and love, kindness and acceptance from Jesus. They advertise the love, practice the mysticism and use the morality to beat women. Too bad they don't practice the love, take their sexual morality from Mithraism and throw that creep Paul in the trash where he belongs. Mithras always had a wife and was a loving husband (wife varies according to the country, but the Phrygian Cybele was popular throughout Anatolia,and the Balkans).

Another ex-Catholic here. The Church is at its very worst when it tries to control secular law -- that's bad for both Church and State.

And the doctrine of priestly celibacy is just dysfunctional. Instead of promoting a devotion to duty, it attracts those into the priesthood who are afraid of their own sexual impulses.

The Church should be relieving human suffering, not adding to it.
