Quite A Record For 287 Days!

MoonBeam (FEAR GOD AND YOU'LL HAVE NOTHING ELSE TO FEAR) November 03, 2009 15:20:32

Eugene Robinson marks the anniversary of President Obama's election:

Obama's months in office have been so action-packed that it's easy to forget some of the historic steps he has taken: nominating Justice Sonia Sotomayor, the first Hispanic on the Supreme Court. Going to Egypt and speaking directly to the Muslim world about cooperation rather than conflict. Embracing multilateralism as the template for U.S. foreign policy in the new century. Accepting the scientific consensus on climate change. Investing in "green" jobs and education reform as key engines of economic development.

And then there's health-care reform. I've been impatient with Obama's strategy of letting Congress take the lead on writing legislation, but he's brought us to the brink of truly meaningful reform much faster than anyone could have imagined a year ago. We still have some fighting to do over two words -- "public" and "option" -- but it looks like the principle that everyone is entitled to health insurance, a Democratic Party goal for at least six decades, is about to become law.

Quite a record for 287 days: All that, and a Nobel Peace Prize, too.

You forgot the timetable for closing Gitmo, the economic stimulus package (Keynes was right, get over it conservatives), moving the troops out of the cities of Iraq, confronting Ahmajinedad, putting money into Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security, making other countries actually like America, and of course making Glenn Beck look crazier then ever.

No, he isnt perfect but i dont understand this Nirvana Fallacy the entire country is plagued with? Can you name one "perfect" president. Its ironic how some of our most hated presidents overtime become some of history's most loved (Jefferson, Lincoln, FDR, Jackson, etc...)

President Obama is not Superman. He is a mere mortal human being, and will make mistakes, but he has impressed the hell out of me so far. He got to work immediately. I was very pleased that one of his first actions was to close Gitmo, and renounce "enhanced interrigation techniques" and call them what they were - torture.

and what a year it has been. I'm still in the trenches fighting alongside President Obama to get Public Option passed and countless other pro-active bills.

Let's not forget Eugene Robinson won the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for Commentary. Good job!

You sound like an ardent Obama fan. Did you also support Cheney\Bush so ardently?

Yup hes done a lot. He has lived up (well almost) to what we thought he would be. He's done a fine job. You forgot however to add a stimulus plan that stopped us from completely collapsing economically, and finally calling out Fox News for being bias.

Yes, he's done far better than the last one did in 287 days. This was about the top of his popularity, it was all downhill from here. Hopefully, this time it's all uphill from here.

it´s amazing to have a president who cares about health, education, diplomacy and american ideals. i shudder to think of what we would be if we kept down the path we were going with bush. just imagine living in a country where religion is forced upon you, every conflict is resolved with violence, children are being deprived of basic knowledge, and freedom is for few and not most.

country religion forced conflict resolved violence children deprived basic freedom

I really like Obama. My only problem at the moment is both the Democratic and Republican health reform proposals REQUIRE people to buy insurance with penalties involved, such as fines, possibility of jail time..all the better for big, private industry. Including the jailhouse industry. Just what we need...more jails and regular folks being put there.

Please correct me if I'm wrong on this.

Obama, like Bush is just another puppet of the New World Order bent on the destruction of America.
