Put me in charge of food stamps

jlbcalif 2011/05/17 21:33:46
This was in the Waco Tribune Herald in Waco , TX

Put me in charge of food stamps. I'd get rid of Lone Star cards; no cash
for Ding Dongs or Ho Ho's, just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans,
blocks of cheese and all the powdered milk you can haul away. If you want
steak and frozen pizza, then get a job.
Put me in charge of Medicaid. The first thing I'd do is to get women
Norplant birth control implants or tubal ligations. Then, we'll test
recipients for drugs, alcohol, nicotine and document all tattoos and
piercings. If you want to reproduce or use drugs, alcohol, smoke or get
tats and piercings, then get a job.
Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks?
You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair. Your
"home" will be subject to inspections anytime and possessions will be
inventoried. If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a job and your
own place.
In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or
you will report to a "government" job. It may be cleaning the roadways of
trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you.
We will sell your 22 inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo
and speakers and put that money toward the "common good."
Before you write that I've violated someone's rights, realize that all of
the above is voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules. Before
you say that this would be "demeaning" and ruin their "self esteem,"
consider that it wasn't that long ago that taking someone else's money for
doing absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self esteem.
If we are expected to pay for other people's mistakes we should at least
attempt to make them learn from their bad choices. The current system
rewards them for continuing to make mistakes and bad choices.
AND while you are on Government subsistence, you no longer can VOTE! Yes,
that is correct. For you to vote would be a conflict of interest. You
voluntarily remove yourself from the voting rolls while you are receiving
a Government welfare check.
If you want to vote - get a job.

here is what pisses me off that a single mom with 2 or 3 kids can get around 800 $ in food stamps be on a fixed income and an elderly lady on a fixed income gets maybe 10$ in food stamps .

Very well said. It is SO frustrating to work everyday, pay your taxes and then have your money go as a REWARD to the welfare mom who had another child, or the drug addict that can't seem to stay in government paid rehab. Enough....I work hard and I'm tired.

I know but we have to keep going and uplifting one another.

Those people have an extremely poor voting record, anyway. So?
  • birdman 2011/05/18 01:33:23
I agree with all except the voting bit.

The author is obviously not a fan of the Constitution.

I find it interesting that the author would prevent not only the unemployed but also retirees and the disabled from voting.

    Blessings Upon You

I wouldn't go quite that far. I don't want to take away human dignity from people who are down. I do want to give people a hand up. I do agree that we can't go on the way we are. Many hard working frugal people are down like never before. I wouldn't want to trample on them.

Hey i'm an independent and you got my vote. I would just take out this section, "If we are expected to pay for other people's mistakes". other than that its all good. there should be regulations on abused social programs, but not everyone on welfare or using social programs are there because they made a mistake of some sort. The Main gripe i have with the far right wing on this topic is the idea that they deem 'everyone' using social programs as being lazy or they put themselves there purposely, because this is totally untrue. So basically once again i agree with you, other than a few tweeks here and there, can't be to harsh---not all of them are abusers of the system. Can't treat it like cruel and unusual punishment.

Most of us, we just want honest work and a living wage. I don't expect to be taken care of. I have alway worked very hard. Jobs are hard to come by right now in many parts of the country. I thank God that when my last son left for college I sold the house and downsized my life. My job was outsourced to the Philippines. All five of my kidz are college grads but things are still tight and we are all pulling together.

solid again. yea the outsourcing is getting ridiculous and its only going to get worse sorry to hear that. good luck to ya! Mine got outsourced a few years back. I sent myself back to school and have owned my own business for a bit now, so they can't do it again ( and my business i mean really, really small---lol 2 staff members and its not an internet gig). Keep fighting that good fight!

Agreed, these programs are great for helping someone get back on their feet, BUT we have people that live off gov welfare and that's all they want. This is obviously directed at them.

than we are on the same page, despite the vote part. It would depend if you could do a personality check and background check to make sure the one that is using these programs for good still get their say so. Some people, top and bottom of this society should lose that right by abusing any of the systems implimented for their benefit at the expense of the whole. well i guess that would be the tweeks and maybe some other type of protein also lol. Cheese would be rough for anyone after a while. maybe throw some eggs or something in there. they have to retain some sense of happiness so they don't go the opposite route. Overall yes cuts could definitely be made in that particular area of spending. good post overall.

looks like a good start, IF the feds would let the state do it they could each try their version and we could see what works best.
  • Farnsworth 2011/05/18 00:10:03
I cannot find a single thing wrong with any of that. Put that in place and the number of folks using our money as a hammock, will fall...
  • Demosthenes 2011/05/17 23:58:14
don't pay any taxes, you have no vested interest in how the government wastes our money, then you don't get to vote.
  • sbtbill Demosth... 2011/05/18 00:21:46
Who do you know who doesn't pay taxes except some of the rich. Maybe no income taxes but plenty of sales taxes, FICA, gas, and other taxes. I agree the rich shouldn't be allowed to vote.
  • Demosth... sbtbill 2011/05/18 00:25:30
Income taxes are the only ones that count, The rest you (supposedly) get some future benefit for. If you're not smart enough to earn enough money to pay income taxes you're not smart enough to vote.

Give me one name of a rich person that pays no income taxes, which shows how Little you know.

i do agree with the post btw so do not take this as a "i am a socialist fighting against this" type of thing. the insulting style in which you place as a whole upon people using social programs is quite un-neccessary. And ya the only part of this i am on the fence about; is the no voting part. That kind of kills the biggest right that we possess as a free country.
  • Demosth... por cambio 2011/05/18 00:36:00
When the country was founded you had to be a property owner to vote. How wise they were.

now we are in a place where people are voting themselves all the money. They elect Democrats who give them more and more and want to steel more and more from earners to pay for it. It has to end.
