Put bankers behind bars

Big banks have been caught in a massive scam to rig global interest
rates, ripping off millions of people on their mortgages, student loans
and more! We'd go to jail for this, but Barclays bank has only been
fined, and just a fraction of their profits! Outrage is mounting -- this
is our chance to finally turn the tide of the banks' reign over our
democracies.

The EU finance regulator, Michel Barnier is standing up to the
powerful bank lobby and championing reform that would put bankers behind
bars for fraud like this. If the EU goes first, accountability could
quickly spread across the globe. But the banks are lobbying hard against
it, and we need a massive surge of people power to drive these reforms
through.

Prison would be nice, but if you
really want to send a message to future generations of money-junkies,
then I recommend hanging, drawing, quartering, burning, then having a
dog piss on the ashes!

Ain't going to happen. Banksters control politicians while some people say "stop picking on the banks".

they certainly asserted the power of govt. but in the US people hate to think the govt has much power, even if they need to use it. that's why we keep getting shafted because people think the govt shafts us more than the banks.

But this is a very deep problem. Banks compete globally. If banks abroad cook their books and do the Enron thing, and we decide not to, eventually Barclays or someone will grab some of our banks in hostile takeovers. When one does it, the others almost have to to show the same kinds of returns that protect them (even if it's based on fairydust)

banks should never have been allowed to engage in trading. But, why should we put people in jail for merely taking advantage of a fundamentally flawed system?

these would be hard prosecutions, I think that is why none have been brought. who gets picked to go to jail and why? there are thousands.

I agree with you ICR. If we decided to start prosecuting the "pro-business" politicians would scream "communist takeover". Plus, the guys in the banks are literally "the smartest guys in the room". Do we really think the SEC has enough guys smarter than their guys? If they were that smart they'd work for the banks at ten times the salary

The only thing they can prove easily is insider trading, and that's pretty much the only prosecutions that have come to fruition with jail time.

Correct, that and outright fraud as in the case of Madoff, who made off with so much. (I couldn't resist that.)
