George Zimmerman fatally shot Trayvon Martin on February 26, and it took about one month for the case to reach the national spotlight. Now it's easily the most controversial item in the daily news, dividing the public at every turn. In addition to the ambiguous details surrounding the shooting, a big part of the controversy concerns its racial implications. Some suspect Zimmerman attacked Martin because of his race, and as a result the case has taken on elements reminiscent of the Rodney King case in 1991. There's even a Twitter movement called #KillZimmerman demanding street justice. We asked the public if this is getting out of hand.

No one is short on an opinion when it comes to this case, but most people can agree that the whole thing is getting just a little out of hand. One thing we noticed from both sides of the argument was a finger pointed at the media. The Top Opinion read, "Newspapers and television news don't care whether or not [Zimmerman] might be innocent or guilty so long as it drives ratings up, they'd dance for joy while America burned if they got ratings." Sadly, it's probably true. Very little has been confirmed about the case, but the media has done an excellent job at recklessly speculating.
The Dividing Line
Obviously, there was a fine political line between the left and the right; liberals tend to give Martin the benefit of the doubt, and conservatives tend to give Zimmerman the benefit of the doubt. However, a third of liberals agreed the opposition against Zimmerman is going too far. It's one thing to take Martin's side, but resorting to further violence will only aggravate tensions further.
College Controversy
One of the only non-political demographics that came close to justifying the level of controversy was college students. It could be that the issue is being tossed around at greater velocity in university classrooms, where debate is generally encouraged. High school students did not feel the same.
More Women Want Resolution
Beyond politics and the classroom, there was very little difference of opinion. We suspected men would be more willing to continue the controversy, and that was true, but only by a small margin. Ultimately, it doesn't matter what side of the fence you're on. Most people just want to take it down a notch.

Not all Florida Neighborhood Watch standards prohibits the carry of firearms. Although, NWs vary from county to county (heck even between towns) any Police Dept that would mention a firearm carry for CCP holders would remind them it is only for self-defense (of course they already know this).
BTW, most Neighbor Watches are registered with their local Police Department, yet do not bother to register with USAonWatch.
True, USA0nWatch does emphasis that Watch personnel are not law enforcement and should not carry weapons. However, this precaution alone is probably why registration is so low in right-to-carry States. The rule leaves the Watch defenseless if they are confronted by a threat from which they cannot retreat. Another example of the State telling the Citizen "We know better than you".
Now this is where it gets tricky the same articles that criticize Zimmerman condemn his Neighbor Watch for not being registered, then try to use the USAonWatch rules against them. That's blaming him for not follow a contract when he never even signed the paperwork.

The rules for Zimmerman's NW have not been released, yet we have even the National Neighborhood Watch Director (guess who - USAonWatch Head) criticizing his actions. Could it be that the rules in Zimmerman Neighborhood authorize carry of firearm by those with CCP's, but the Media doesn't want that to get out?
In any event, there is a question as to whether he was on official Patrol of just happened to come upon a situation where he saw a stranger on his way to the store. Again this may just be another Media rumor ~ we don't have all the information.
If you don't mind, I am going to save your information to use against the hard liner racist on this blog. Not that it will do any good....but, sometimes I like to give the a little tweak....
I was in Bay Co. when I was in FL (okay Panhandle) but the Media was always on their ass. And the Orlando Sentinel has been stirring up the pot by bringing in "audio" experts to listen to second-hands tape to make the Police look like the Keystone Cops.
In the meantime, we have tons of faked "evidence" floating around the Web calling Zimmerman a racist (based on doctored garbled audio) to low-grain video used as fact he was not injured. These fabricators care nothing for the laws, evidence, or justice they just want a conviction for their "White Hispanic".
FL had 35 occurrences of Justifiable Homicide last year. I would say a good deal of those were Whites. Consequently there is no evidence to support the claim had Martin been White in this situation that Zimmerman would not have been released.
However, given there were 35 Justified Homicides in FL and no network Nationally made a peep, I believe there is support for a claim that the Media would not have cared for a White Martin.

Still missing those days when your eugenics plans had a chance?
Of course, poor Zimmerman as a sub-class mixed-blood could not develop his own personality. As you Progressive Liberals know only the White Man's Government can care for these disadvantaged minorities.
BTW, you guys keep calling minorities disadvantaged ~ I personally find that offensive.
These idiots think Neighbor Watchs are hired ~ they're Volunteer's & no one from the neighborhood has said Zimmerman was not a member of the Neighborhood Watch. Only people making that claim are the fabricators on the Web.
So forgive me if I have a low tolerance for lynch mobs.
You just joined a new account 1hr before posting to make this bogus claim.
The only Neighborhood Watch Group making any statement is the National USAonWatch with which Zimmerman's Group is not affiliated.
Now, that you have been exposed as part of the racist lynch mob ~ you may delete your phoney account.
