CANNES, France — The critics are angry. Wrung out perhaps by the arduous work of watching movies all day and night at the 65th Cannes Film Festival, they have begun to boo and jeer louder and more insistently, or so it seems. Are the selections really all that disastrous, deserving of the contemptuous dismissals or post- (and mid!) screening Twitter alerts? Certainly the antipathy aimed at the more formally experimental entries seems reflective of the same ungenerous, unadventurous mind-set (except when I boo, of course) that asserts itself here every year.
