PUBLIC OPINION > SodaHeads Say Mitt Romney Won the Second Presidential Debate

SodaHead Politics 2012/10/18 21:00:00
The first round of the presidential debate went to Mitt Romney with few questions asked, but the second round was a closer call. The President seemed better prepared, even aggressive, compared to his lackluster performance in Denver. But was it enough to win the debate? We asked SodaHeads.

debate

Obama's improved performance was not enough to convince the majority of SodaHeads that he was the better debater. For the most part, respondents were referring to content over performance. Regardless of how confident or aggressive the candidates were during the debate, most people were only concerned with their policies and promises.

Moderates Move Toward Obama

Let's put aside conservative and liberal votes for a second and look at some of the voters outside bipartisan lines. Moderates, for instance, were actually two-thirds in favor of Obama. People who labeled their views as "other" voted similarly. Libertarians, on the other hand, gave it to Mitt, but were seven times more likely to say Obama than conservatives.

Conservatives Make It Count

One reason Romney came out so far ahead in the poll was the conservative turn out. There were three times as many conservatives as there were liberals, though left-leaning moderates and "others" did manage to balance it out somewhat. It could be that liberals just didn't turn out, or that some are switching sides.

The Legal Department Leans Left

Based on career, voters who work in the legal field were most likely to say Obama won the debate. However, there were a lot more small business owners in the mix, and they were firmly planted in the right. Other left-leaning career demographics included advertising/graphic design, arts and entertainment, and of course students.

I am too young to vote, but that does not mean I am too incompetent to understand what is being talked about in majority of cases in the debate. I wish not to express any standings of who I wish to win the election, but some of you will probably read into this and assume what my stance on this election is. Regardless, let me just say, there is such thing as reverse racism. I myself can't stand racism. Unfortunately, some people see racism in the conventional way. But consider this. However, people will instantly read into it, and if they think in the general way I do, they will be able to find something out of nothing. It is then blown out of proportion. However, if an African American said the same thing or something along the same lines, people would think nothing of it. Again, I say this is not intended to offend anyone. I imagine I will get negative responses to this, but please, think of the person you are responding to. Please, do not use vulgar language(any derogatory terms or swear words). And don't assume that I don't know pain or loss. In this year alone, two people I knew and cared about, died. Earlier this month, my grandfather died, and earlier this year, my friend died suddenly, with no warning. So perhaps I may be a Minor, but I have my own thoughts, feelings, and experiences. That is all I wish to say right now.

Obama has the built-in advantage of being the POTUS - and Romney took a hard centrist turn from his previous neocon-ish stances - to the President's own foreign policies. If you've been following politics, as I have, this is glaringly obvious.

    But WHO WON is a matter of PERSPECTIVE;

If you're a liberal, Obama kicked a$$ and Romney was the Etch-A-Sketcher-In-Chief.

If you're a centrist or independent, Obama was the stronger and more confident debater as Romney did his best to hide his vulnerabilities.

If you're a conservative, Fox News watcher, or racist, Obama was the angry, disrespectful, uppity Black man and Romney was the cool and confident White knight.

This explains why Obama killed Romney in all of the major polls surrounding last night's debate. Obama won the combined liberal and independent vote.

I think you are on Crystal Meth:

    CBS: Obama 53, Romney 24
    CNN: Obama 48, Romney 40
PPP Swing State Poll: Obama 53, Romney 42

Perhaps you were looking for PPP - and typed KKK instead.

Romney should stop being so overbearing. He tries to dominate the whole debate. Loud, motor mouths are not smarter, or better, just louder and won't shut up to allow equal time.

You're complaining about illiteracy when you yourself can't even use apostrophes correctly. Getting points across isn't enough; you need to get them across clearly and accurately. Punctuation, spelling, grammar, and other forms of syntax help with that.
