Public Opinion Says We Shouldn't Have a Saggy Pants Ban [INFOGRAPHIC]

SodaHead Infographics 2011/10/10 20:00:00
A couple weeks ago, we asked SodaHeads what they thought about the increasingly popular saggy pants ban. A small Georgia town was the first to crack down on conspicuous cracks last November, but after reporting nearly $4,000 in fines related to the ban over the last year, a couple of Florida towns have adopted similar bans.

Though a slight majority voted against the bans, we did uncover some interesting statistics. For instance, in Florida and Georgia, where saggy pants have already been banned in some towns, there was majority support for the bans. We also got some financial perspective on the $200 fines Georgia has been handing out.

So pull up your breeches and peep this week's infographic. Let's dive.

Hey, local or not, a law is a law, and you still have to pay 2 days pay for something as stupid as wearing saggy pants. That's not right.

Yeah, israel. Our cops are sort of a mob. The best example is that guy a few months ago. He had a camera in his car that showed the road. The cop wanted to give him a ticket for not stopping at the stop sign, while the camera clearly showed he did, which he pointed out to the cop. He got a ticket anyway, and went to complain (it would be totally pointless without a concrete evidence like a video. Cops are always in favor at the court). They canceled his ticket, and later on he got beaten up by the cops, but this time there was no evidence.
You can actually see them enjoy those things they do. They might not stop a pedestrian J-walking for hours, but once somebody catches their eye, they'll find why to stop him or fine him. And they never need to explain their probable cause. They can frisk you on the street just because. And if you refuse, they have the right to take you to the station.
It is possible to get favors and such. I once talked myself out from a ticket for a red light, but that's only because I managed to convince them it wasn't red (I'm not sure myself :P ). But it's rare. If a cop comes up to you because he wants to, and not because he's doing his job (and that's mostly what happens), you know you're gonna end up with your pockets inside out.

lol yeah. Well, it's not like they're militarized. They just have a lot of power, and it's very hard to sue because there are not much laws that could help, and they use it. Some laws are unclear, and a lot of things work on connections (another reason why it's so hard to sue). It's not as bad as Russia or Ukraine, where I'm originally from, but it feels not serious. Like the whole system is based on brothers and cousins. Like it's all been quickly glued with duct tape, just so it will hold.

Thank you :) But overall it's not just the pressure that causes that. It's the mentality. There are a lot of good hard working people in here. But also a lot of those that instead of doing the job properly, just wrap it up and let go. Now, that's great for falafel industry. But that's it. And it's kinda creepy to see this kind of attitude in governmental offices and other important places sometimes. But that's a whole other story. After all it's a new country, with people from almost all over the world. I like to believe the people and the government will mature over time.

So what about my freedoms? Or any other person's freedoms and right to NOT have to look at the disgusting crap? If I want to see some guys underwear as he's walking in front of me...trust me...I can stay home and see that. So I ask....what about MY rights to not have to look at some wanna be thugs nasty drawers?

Rights to have to look? Are you serous? Some guy needs to change his whole wardrobe just so you wouldn't have to look?
As I said earlier, unless a person's appearance leads to indecent exposure, he's got the freedom to wear what he wants, and you have the freedom to look away. Freedom is for everyone, and if it was only about what you want, and even so much as what you wanna see around you, that's not much of freedom. Not for everyone else anyway.

People have the right to dress the way they want to. If you don't like it, don't look at it.

That's kind of like saying if I don't like the loud bass thumping @zzhat sitting at the stop light next to me, don't listen to it. It's just plain nasty and disrespectful.

I hate those drivers that do that. I've had people coming up the street 2-blocks away and I hear bbbbbbbnnnnnhhhh, and when they pass the house my windows rattle. One time a car alarm went off the bass was so cracked. It's as annnoying as it is disrespectful and I think cops should start handing them tickets to turn it the f#$% down.

Same problem with the bikers with loud pipes. It's really offensive. I live a block off the main drag in my town and it's almost impossible to sleep with the windows open because of the ignernt bikers racing from one bar to the next. Many unnecessarily race the engine to make as much noise as possible. Cops never ticket them, but if I had straight pipes on my old TransAm, I couldn't get a block without a ticket.

Hey, loud pipes save lives :P
Anyway, can't back you up on the bikers problem, cuz I'm a big fan myself. But if there's anything I took from the priest I used to go to is that your freedom ends where the other person's freedom begins. Now, it's quite tricky, because it's very hard to keep such things balanced. But ok, I'll admit that loud pipes might not be the biggest pleasure for some people, when they're trying to sleep in the middle of the night. But saggy pants, come on! It's not like they're naked. If their crack is showing, it's one thing. I'd call it indecent exposure. But if it's just about you not liking the way it looks, then for christ sakes, look away.
I could probably throw up on half the people I see on the street daily because of the way they're dressed. But it's their business, and I don't get involved. We're all different. And I believe that's the beauty about us, as much as some things suit us less than other.

No no no. I don't get involved because it's THEIR BUSINESS. Just as much as I wouldn't like some vegan ass to pick on me for my leather jacket, or anyone else for my torn jeans. I give freedom, and I expect freedom. And I'll fight for my freedom if needed, and I won't prevent anyone's freedom, as long as it doesn't hurt anyone. And since I don't recall saggy pants attacking anyone, I'd say they're pretty safe. That's the best kind of country I know, unlike Afganistan back in a day, where women could only walk around with their faces covered, dressed in clothes that looked practically the same, and men were required by the law to have a beard. At least they didn't have a saggy pants problem, eh?

Yeah, but don't you like them to do so because they want to, and not because they have to?
And think about it, who the hell are we to tell people what to do? You seem to be aligned with the way things mostly are. With the laws, with commonly accepted things. So correct me if I'm wrong, but you don't seem to take the time and try to understand the ones going against the stream. But imagine a hypothetical situation. What if one day the stream changes and you become the minority, the rebel, the felon. Just because suddenly everyone thinks different than you do. Will you adapt as quickly, or will you fight for your freedom to live your life the way you believe you should? Will you accept and justify those people telling you what to do and how to live your life, just because they are the majority?
Just give it a thought. Understanding and acceptance is the key to a happy life. Life in harmony. And we're all too damn different to try and change each other to fit our own standards.

Btw, I find most meat eating asses harass vegetarians/vegans more often than vegans/vegetarians do. As far as you can do what you want as long as you aren't hurting anyone, well, those loud motorcycles hurt my ears and they scare little kids.

Staying off a motorcycle saves lives. If you ride a bike that's your decision so be prepared to reap the consequences. Others shouldn't have to be put upon because another wants to ride such a dangerous vehicle.

Hey, no one's forcing anyone to ride motorcycles. Every rider out there is aware of the possible outcome. With motorcycles mostly it's different. It's a passion. And if your talking about the danger to others, well, I think it's safe to say that cars and trucks present a much bigger danger than a two wheeled light easily maneuvered motorcycle.

Larsen...there are a lot of places that will in fact ticket bikers for excessively loud pipes. While I do believe that loud pipes save lives I agree with you that there is a testosterone driven need to rev the motor to make them scream all to often.

God, I despise those obnoxious loud motorcycles. There should be a ban on on them, he loudness I mean. There is this guy across the street from me who fires up his obnoxious bike everyday very early in the AM and I can't stand it. But who cares he wakes up 1/2 the neighborhood right?
