PUBLIC OPINION > Let the Porn Star Go to Prom

Mike Stone didn't expect his story to break national news, but we're glad it did. After asking a reported two dozen girls to his high school prom, the 18-year-old Minnasotan senior decided to try his luck on Twitter. He proceeded to offer something like 600 adult film actresses to the dance through the social media site, and finally got 19-year-old Megan Piper to agree. Unfortunately, the school caught wind and banned his date. The result was one of our favorite questions of the week, and here are the results.

Considering how much support Piper is getting, maybe we should be surprised she was banned in the first place. We can see where the concern stems from, but when you take a step back, the ban doesn't make a whole lot of sense. What exactly is she being banned for? Her job? What they might do together? As if that doesn't happen already, and as if banning her is necessarily going to stop it from happening. One commenter wrote, "He has the right to date who he wants! As long as they don't do "it" on the dance floor, who cares?" Several more wrote, "I wish I had thought of that."
Guys Think It's Great

Surprise, surprise. A resounding yes from the guys. Male voters were 16% more likely to green-light the porn star. Women were still more than willing to let her in, but in the context of other demographics, 66% is a pretty low vote. That's within a few percent of Christians, conservatives, parents, and the oldest voters.
Atheists Are in Love

Even Christians were okay with a porn star at prom! Not nearly as much as atheists, of course. Atheists were almost unanimous. A whopping 94% of them thought the school should let Ms. Piper attend the prom, with agnostics falling just 4% behind. But Christians still voted her through by a healthy margin.
Married With Children

You might think parents would have the biggest problem with allowing a porn star to accompany a high schooler to prom, but you'd be wrong. They were definitely more concerned than voters without kids (17% more, to be exact) but the strongest opposition came from voters who were simply married, with or without kids of their own. Still, more than half were okay with it.

+11Stupid...if I was this kid and the school told me I couldn't bring her I would make sure the school did background checks on every other date coming to the prom that did not go to that school.

How is it?
And a slightly relevant question - what is wrong with someone "staring" in porn?
According to you: Nobody should do something anything you don't approve of, People shouldn't earn money, Adolescents are mindless drones with no self control, Your imaginary friend is real, and has an opinion on porn (I've seen no mention of this in the bible)... Fun.
And there is so many moral and ethical holes in the quotes you posted to allow any rational person to disregard that section of the bible (or the entire book). Unfortunately, I'm not stupid enough to rely on such childish techniques...
You may be able to claim that christians should follow the bible, and at a push Muslims and Jews (seeing as those 3 are effectively the same religion), but any rational person can quite easily and reasonable disregard anything it says. There are approximately 2.1 billion solf-proclaimed christians on the planet, which is about 30%. If you cut it down to just the people that strictly follow the belief system - you may get half a billion. And just those foolish enough to interpret the bible so literally and incorrectly, well, it's a very small number. But that's how many people who, following the bible as they should, should be opposed to porn.
Then there's the logical argument I don't like to use: The bible is wrong, there is no god therefore something can not be against god, or against the bible. You might just as well quote The Matrix, or X-men.
Actually I have - at least twice. I went to a Christian school where it was compulsary - It always proves useful when talking to idiots who think they know their own religion.
"What are you and others like you going to do when you find out there really is a God that's our father that lives in heaven"What are you going to do when you find out there isn't?
"I will promise you this...one day you are going to find out. "
I have no intentions of suffering heavy blows to the head.
".stand by God or deny him all together."
Easy choice.
"I hope you think very hard about your choice."
No need to - I don't worcsip or follow fictional characters.
Now that you've realised you're wrong, are you just going to question my apparent atheism?
Is there a law against being a porn star?
If you want to believe in make believe people and think that some imaginary person talks to you that is fine for you but don't put your silly beliefs on my life.
Not everyone see things the way you do, nor do I expect you to understand my view of the world.
This has a lot to do with why us Liberals are so upset with the religious people trying to influenced our countries laws based on silly beliefs in an imaginary person.
Please keep your God out of my government and my life.
Where do you draw the line, is it ok to work on Sunday, does a wife have the right to say no to her husband?
I have read your fairytale book and although a lot of good stories it has nothing that says this is the one and only.
Your religion are just like a lot of religions that proceed it, a lot of the same stories too.
So keep your religion and it it's ten commandments were they belong in your church and let the rest of us live our lives without your narrow minded view of the world.
Sorry for being so blunt but it is people like you that demand we all subscribe to your views and don't have any tolerances for anything else.
I realize you have no concept for people like me that don't believe in your version of history. That don't see your imaginary friend as anything more then that, so don't feel sorry for me and please don't put your narrow morals on my life.
There is more to this world then your narrow view of it.
Helluva prom date. I'm 83 and say more power to this kid's initiative.
