PUBLIC OPINION > Insourcing Could Bring Back Jobs

With unemployment still in the red zone, outsourcing is a major part of the political debate. Why are companies like Apple employing thousands of manufacturers overseas when Americans need jobs? For many companies, it's the bottom line. That's why President Obama is trying to pull back jobs by removing tax breaks for outsourcing and offering incentives to businesses who put Americans first and bring the jobs back home. It would mean more spending, but if it means higher rates of employment, it could be worth it. We asked SodaHeads if they thought "insourcing" through incentives will work.
Will 'Insourcing' Incentives Bring Jobs Back Home?

60% Think It Could Work
It seems like it would make sense. Offer businesses more money for keeping it local, and they'll keep it local. Of course, there's no way to know at this point whether the incentives are going to be enough to match the edge corporations get from outsourcing labor-intensive jobs. Insourcing could help the problem, but that doesn't mean it would solve it. One commenter wrote, "We hope our country will thrive; but if we have no pride in our country, no patriotism, or willingness to work together for the common good; how will we win the war on poverty?"

Liberals Love It

A staggering 94% of liberal respondents voted in favor of the incentives, with progressives trailing by about 10%. Conservatives were less thrilled, with only 26% of them showing support. They were mainly concerned about the new incentives -- most comments still showed support for removing the outsourcing incentives.
Men Are More Divided

The gender gap wasn't very big, but male voters appear to be split on the issue with 54% support. Women helped pull the overall number up by its bootstraps with 63% support.
Smokers Say No

Technically, 47% in favor is withing the margin of error, but it's still evidence that smokers are less impressed with the idea than most. 62% of nonsmokers voted in favor of the idea, while smokers fell just short of supporting it. Drinkers were still in favor.

MW121 2012/02/17 21:46:23+7It's not just incentives to keep jobs here, it's everything else.. Healthcare, regulations, taxes.. It just costs too much to hire anyone here in the states.. At the end of the day, it's all about bottom line and when administrations like this is anti buisness, there is no incentive to invest in more employment rather invest in ways to be effective, productive and profitable without having to hire full time.. That's what I've been doing.. Everything this administration wants to do is increase taxes.. There is no incentive to hire.. Everytime there's more and more increaseing in taxes or fee's or regulations, it just gets pushed down to the employees, in reduced wages, hours, benefits, increase in prices, etc.. How do you expect companies to keep hiring..

*Wanna goes for a beer....*
Where the hell was I? Oh yeah...
AH HA HA HA! Insourcing! LOL
The current economic climate in this country is not good for businesses to hire.
Barry's doing that?
Well, whaddyaknow? He finally got something right. Good for him. Just goes to show you that even an idiot can learn something . . . .
Perhaps you can tell me more about the tax incentives, other than avoiding the highest in the world US corporate tax, that you believe is enticing US companies to go abroad?
The simple answer is government needs to back up and get out of the way. Lose the regulations and stronghold over business. Capitalism works for those willing to work. for those with their hand out and an 'I'm entitled' attitude, it will not.
For those who haven't figured out in the current administration's "99% to 1%" world, they are the 1% (haves) and you are the 99% (have nots). The plan is not to change that fact but to make you accept it by saying it isn't their fault it happened.
Wake Up!
Well when you go in the Low Road, low taxes low pay it's bad.
Low taxes takes away your help paying the rent. The apartments are not being nice when they say "Ah ok I know life is hard for you, just pay this much rent!" NOT!
It's covered by taxes, less taxes less to cover the rent! And less money for food stamps!
Then you have the low pay, ALEC! ( http://alecexposed.org/wiki/A... )
People with no money can not buy things. All this low road does is makes your stamps go up $9, makes your school cost go up! And pay a $200+ fee for the police & fire, because most of the poor only has $20 in the bank before payday & can't afford the fee, so more people have to pay more of a fee to keep life going!
Friends stop voting Republican!
Print this up and pass it around!
OBarry says what the delusional minions want to hear. But his minions also refuse to make the tax climate conducive to inviting businesses in. Until these idiots realize that they need to stop the welfare fascist state notion of government as a solution and see it as the problem, the problem will get worse.
The primary function of all business is PROFIT! Employment is a by-product. There is not one business that can continue to operate without profit. If two businesses are making and selling widgets and one of them can decrease production costs by outsourcing, the other, in order to maintain its ROI, will have to outsource or innovate in some other way in order to stay in business. Government actions rarely can have much of an effect on the costs of labor unless it uses its taxing abilities to favor one company over others, which would be a bastardizing of its taxing authority. According to constitutional principles, taxing should be uniformly applied throughout the country. If all businesses are treated equally, the business that comes up with the lowest production and marketing costs will generally outperform the rest of the pack. Government activity can ONLY impede the profitability of any business concern. The less government activity in the commercial life of the country the more profitable the businesses will be, and the more profitable a business is, the more employment will result.
The free market is beginning to punish companies that overuse the offshore option. When I call for assistance and get stuck with a useless offshore call center, I take my business elsewhere. It's worth a premium to be exempt from the nonsense.
Pile on workers's comp., unemployment taxes, social security, and employer-subsidized healthcare, and it becomes obvious that the only countries with heavier tax burdens than the US are in Europe -- suffering just like us for the same reason. To their credit, the Europeans provide healthcare, so the tax burden is less than the US if you add on the cost of healthcare as if it were a tax (as it soon will be anyway).
It costs less to hire a worker a worker in China or India than to pay the overhead cost of a US worker -- before the US worker sees a single dime! For the jobs that somehow escape offshoring, the US worker has to be paid 50% more than the cost of what he needs to survive -- which is inflated by 50% to cover the taxes baked into the cost of production!
Taxes and healthcare costs are two of the biggest factors in determining cost of living (and by extension, cost of labor) from one country to the next. Jobs are not moving offshore because employers are clamoring to pay higher taxes.

If you pour water on your floor and the puddle shifts to one corner of the room, you can safely assume the floor is not level. You can also assume the water is flowing downhill (never uphill). With jobs, it's the same principle. Employment flows from high cost to low cost, just as water flows downhill.
