PUBLIC OPINION > Conservatives Were Rooting for Santorum

It's been a long, grueling primary season, but Mitt Romney has all but secured the GOP ticket. Rick Santorum, his primary opponent (no pun intended), dropped out of the race on Tuesday because it would have taken a miracle to win enough delegates, and his team felt it was time to unite the Republican party for the general election. In the wake of Sanotorum's resignation, we asked the public who was rooting for him.

This one is a little tricky, because political alignment doesn't just have profound affect on how people are going to vote -- it's essential to the question. Only 23% of the general public was voting for Santorum, but that includes liberals and progressives, who are probably rooting for Obama; libertarians, who are probably rooting for Ron Paul; and moderates, who could be rooting for anyone. We've got to take a closer look.
Conservatives Had Santorum's Back

A lot of respondents were referring to Santorum as an impossible candidate, and based on primary results that seemed to be the case, but more than half of conservative voters supported him. Every other political alignment combined averaged about 13% support, including libertarians.
Young Voters Can't Stand Him

Further evidence that older voters skew conservative, young voters supporting Santorum were practically nonexistant. Between the ages of 13 and 24, he received just 5% of the vote. But be careful not to infer that young voters are liberals. On the political spectrum, the lowest level of Santorum support and, we believe, most likely to represent young voters was "Other."
Smokers Throw Santorum a Bone

Believe it or not, smokers were significantly more likely to support Santorum. It could be that Santorum's conservative leanings make him an unlikely candidate to bring back the idea of slapping those disturbing images on the packages. Government regulation. They don't want it.

He keeps his money out of the U.S.? It's his money. He earned it. Why is it out of the U.S.? Because it's his family's inheritance, his legacy, and the progressive lazybones in this country want to take every dime they can get.
Hey, let me ask you this. I don't know much about the man, but I know the species. Let's see if this question rides well. Does the man have all of his money sitting in banks all over the world and he just cashes checks a few times a month and pays his family bills and buys luxury toys and whatnot and that's it? Hell, he's got enough that I'll bet he could do that if he wanted. Or does he have his money invested in companies, stock markets, products, businesses -- you know, those mindless simpletons who employ individuals and give them salaries and let them earn vacation time and have insurance and whatnot? And, by the by, how many dollars per year do you dole out for charities and good causes, hmmm? Let's get a printout of Romney's contributions per year.
Obama is doing his best? Well, son, ...

Obama is doing his best? Well, son, his best does not seem to be good enough. So we're going to vote him out of office. How about that? He came into office promising things that he has subsequently proven were lies. You check it out.
And just how is it that Republicans are treating "the ladies," sir, that you so vehemently disagree with? Gosh, were there proposed legislation(s) inuring to the benefit of females which got voted down? Or did those pro-women pieces of legislation perchance carry with them some heretofore unmentioned pieces of legislation which are totally repugnant for America and, thus, the entire bill had to be tossed out because we don't have line-item veto powers? Hmmm? Just asking.
How else are the women being poorly treated? Oh, you mean being stoned or beheaded for having sex with some boneheaded man against their will? Or, gosh, we being forbidden to enter the voting booths now?
I don't see Obama being sabotaged by anybody. See how he managed to get Obamacare passed in the first place? You explain to me how that is either legally or morally acceptable. Good luck on that one.
Sabotaged? His own economic advisers advised against the Solyndra "stimulus." Duh on how that one turned out.
Obama doesn't want free enterprise, severio, he wants Big Government to own everything. Guess what that's called. And, oh, yeah, when BG owns everything, good luck in your grandchildren reaping any of the rewards because it's a known, proven fact that government can't run business, period, produces little to no gross national product, and cannot sustain the free-handout mentality for longer than a decade or two and then, boom, Welcome to Greece, My Dear.
You need to wake up and smell the roses, kiddo. You have been handed a crock of bull and you don't even know it. Obama is not being sabotaged, my dear, he is doing precisely what he wants to do and getting along quite well at it thus far. You want Mitt Romney to be ashamed for his actions? Are you not even the slightest bit shy about delving into the Obama vacations and spending sprees and unnecessary added costs to their family outings? Open your eyes, kiddo, there's a whole world you're missing.
Incomes will go up. Unemployment will go down. Welfare receiptants will have to go to work. Church's will again be free from religious persecution from the Gov't.
Woman will know that there sons and daughters have jobs again and famlies will be a priority.
Thanks to all the Tea Party people and Ron Paul who helped us see how important the Original Constitiution is.
Obama will finally be able to take the rest of his life off on your dime.
SOCIAL conservatives were rooting for Santorum. But those Social Conservatives used to be Dixiecrat Dems until they finally left the Dem party under Carter.
Romney is the only fiscal conservative running, and the only one that understands what businesses need to grow and employ more people.
This country's main problem is a run-away federal gov. and the economy.... Romney is the best qualified to fix those, not the guy who had a chance to do it and spent his time and cache on an unConstitutional healthcare plan instead, or a guy who knows little about business and is more concerned about birth control and who marries whom.
Romney in '12.
