Prosecutor Will Not Use Grand Jury in George Zimmerman Case: Smart or Sketchy?

Special prosecutor Angela Corey has announced that she will not use a grand jury to decide whether or not indict George Zimmerman, the man who fatally shot Trayvon Martin, ABC News reports. She says a grand jury will not be necessary in making the decision and assures the public, "The decision should not be considered a factor in the final determination of the case."

Analysts are calling Corey's decision "bold" and "shocking" because grand juries can be used as political cover in controversial cases. Prosecutors can shift the burden of the decision (in this case, whether or not to indict Zimmerman) onto the jury to avoid public scrutiny. Some suspect the reason she bypassed a grand jury in the George Zimmerman / Trayvon Martin case was to block racial agendas that have developed around the case in either direction. But was it the right move?

You know what's funny... sometimes I get the meaning of a post & agree with its sentiments (not necessarily just with this guy, but generally). I want to Rave the post, but because it is so poorly written, I just can't bring myself to do it. So I will reply with "I agree" or something instead. As the bubble says, it is not "good quality."
I suppose that actually is a bit "anal," but being able to communicate in one's own language is very important. People like to sit around complaining that they can't find a job or a good job or a mate or whatever. Well, if that person can't communicate effectively, that could be at least one of the reasons why. It lowers a person's credibility when he/she is unable to sort out the simplest grammar/spelling items (your/you're, its/it's, etc) Even dyslexia can be overcome if one wants to badly enough.

I know what you mean. Recently I saw someone who complained about not being able to get a job. He went to the job interview wearing a black T shirt that had "I don't give a f..k" printed in large white letters on his chest. At least it was spelled right, but same idea. I've experienced all the same things you mentioned.

Yet he was charged. The point is that MSNBC, ABC, NBC, Black Panthers, Holder, Obama, Sharpton, Jackson, Waters and Cummings won. Mob mentality always wins. What about the 2 old men one beaten with a hammer andthe other jumped by 6 black boys that the news is ignoring or the 43 deaths in chicago, or even the white man punched in the face robbed and stripped on st patrick;s day who won't have a fair shot because baltimore decided "its not a hate crime"?

I think you're right, which is sad. It's not justice being served the way it should, but trial by the mob. Sick. ANYONE could be in his shoes, as long as they're white and the victim is black. Perhaps this over-reacting is to "keep whity in line",

Do you think for one minute that it's fair to the Martin family or Martin himself that his shooter say, "I stood my ground in self defense" & the issue is dropped?
So, your kid goes out for a typical normal excursion to the local stop-&-rob to get some snacks & talk to his girlfriend without busy body ears listening in. He never comes back. When you ask police, they tell you that he attacked a man on his way home. Do you think you would buy that & just swallow it whole without demanding answers, an investigation, justice? Do you think Martin was treated fairly as he lay there dead & the police didn't even notify his family?

There are so many issues in this case that do, indeed, need to come into public light.
I think that being tried is only fair to both parties... Zimmerman & Martin. If Zimmerman is cleared, he can live is life with some sort of peace that he can never be charged again & it's legally over. If he is convicted, he will be punished accordingly. But without going to trial, no one receives justice... not Zimmerman & not Martin.

Gee, if I didn't know any better I would think that you are racist.....But, of course Racist people don't want to admit to it because it makes them look bad....Even though everyone you just mention is black and of course I don't see Faux Noise in that list at all....

The police botched the case from the beginning.
It's good that now, any evidence will be brought to light, including the police department's mishandling of the crime scene, etc.

I think it's good that Zimmerman goes to trial. He gets to air his side. He will have to stand before a judge & a jury & present his case. He will have to prove that he was in fear for his life when he shot a kid in the chest who was pleading for his life, instead of shooting in the air or the ground or shooting him in the leg or shoulder.
Zimmerman's decisions were poor, no doubt. But were they justified?

A trial is not a bad thing. If the guy was justified, okay, he walks. If he wasn't, then it's only fair that he be punished.

Why is it there are so many people who don't want him to be tried? I just don't get that. If I shot you, don't you think your family would want some answers other than, "I stood my ground in self-defense?" Don't you think you'd be swinging from your heavenly vine yelling "trial! trial!" Is it so impossible for so many to put themselves in the shoes of the other party? Why is that? Why does Martin not deserve the truth, whatever it is, to come out? If he was a dangerous thug who threatened a man's life, or if he was a pissed off kid who took a swing at a guy for chas...

Now, will the truth be told?

Some people just refuse to accept the evidence.
I love to hear the dramatic renditions from people who weren't there.
Maybe the prosecution can call you as a witness...hahahaha

I do not think that a trial is a waste of money, especially in this case.

I think that this situation is actually a very good use of public funds, for a change.

    1) Zimmerman had a gun. He therefore had the advantage because Martin did not have a gun. He therefore could have fired his gun in several different places that would not have ended a life yet would have ended any threat he felt he was facing. Just because one has a gun, does not mean that one must kill someone. The objective was to prevent Martin from harming him or killing him. I'm pretty sure that could have easily been achieved by simply firing his weapon, not necessarily at Martin, but into the dirt or the air. And as someone who studied Criminal Justice & Law Enforcement, he should have known those things quite well.

    2) The point where one becomes an aggressor can be somewhat vague. For example, in this case, we do not know whether Zimmerman continued to pursue Martin after he ended the 911 call. We do not know if Martin was found hiding or if Martin turned around, came back & did, indeed, get pissed off & clock Zimmerman. We just don't know. There are about three minutes to account for.

    3) We can take Zimmerman's word for everything he says, but I do not think that's necessarily a good idea. It seems to me...

It seems to me that when a person feels that his/her freedom is at risk, it's pretty likely that he/she will say whatever will keep him/her free. If we take his word for everything, we're not only taking a big chance, we're also behaving pretty naively.

For everyone's sakes, we need to hear how everything went down. It's only fair & will give closure to everyone.

    1) Your life was not threatened, it's easy to arm chair quarterback when you are not the person that feels their life is in danger.
    2) You will never know with certainty what happened, because you have already made up your mind and you refuse to listen or acknowledge the evidence we already know.
    3) Zimmerman will never get a fair trail, because this case has been tried by the lame stream media.
    4) I am all for hearing Zimmerman's side of the story, but doubt seriously the people who have already determined his guilt would believe a word he said.
    4) Their case is weak and would have already been dismissed for lack of evidence in any other State.

He has be arrested now, and is in jail waiting for a safe place to go when he is released on bail. So now we wait, and hope Zimmerman truly can receive justice and a fair trial.

i couldnt agree with her more. Your race is your race, the bottom line is he had NO right to kill trayvon because of his skin color. That was what Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. fought and lost his life for. so that we, of all backgrounds and ethnicities, could walk down the street without fearing for our lives because of racial discrimination. At a time like tthis, we should be coming together to put an end to senseless violence, blacks and whites both, not divided as a nation because of a race vs race issue. This kind of stuff is what caused the LA riots of 1992 in California.

I woulda' stayed in my car, and NOT confronted a complete stranger, like the dispatcher told me to, thus, not putting myself in a position of getting my head split ? If Zimmerman can get away with this, it sends a message....want to ice a guy you don't like ? well, go start a fight with him, let him get the best of you, then blow him away in self defense !
