Proposed Amendment # 28 to the US Constitution

Reaper October 27, 2009 14:45:53
What are the chances of this one passing congress and allowing the States to vote on it?

Proposed Amendment # 28 to the US Constitution

"Congress shall make no law that applies to any citizen of the United States that does not apply equally to all US Senators and Representatives. Congress shall make no law that applies to any US Senator or Representative that does not apply equally to all citizens of the United States. All existing laws and regulations that do not meet these criteria shall be declared null and void!"

This would be the greatest thing to happen to American politics. Finally, something to make the congress & senate personally responsible to their constituents! Oh yeah, I signed the petition, Miss Hazzard! Thanks!

I would be more than willing to work for the ratification of this amendment! However, as long as congress will be the ones voting it can't happen!! This would be a wonderful gift to our children and grandchildren....... the fact that they grant themselves these advantages over the rest of Americans speak volumes........fran

Live by example, Congress! No more under the counter benefits! No more FREE top-of-the-line medical! No more golden retirement w/six digit figures! No more lifetime anything unless you live off the same benefits you put into law for the rest of us. Great idea! No more feasting while throwing the rest of us crumbs. Where do I sign?

Why should they be allowed to ride around on our backs the rest of their life. They never have to worry about health insurance or weather or not the insurance company will pay for an expensive proceedure. You think they have to worry about living or dying because they are denied coverage. Let them walk a mile in our shoes Why should they be able to vote themselves a raise anyway. Thats just nonsense. And lets not even talk about how much time they take off. Way more than the average working American. And yet they fight like a bunch of adolecents while the rest of us struggle to make ends meet. They think they've seen uprisings in other countries. It will be nothing compared to here if things don't get better. What the hell is the American Dream? Its more like the American nightmare. I say its about time they took care of themselves like everyone else has to. They make alot of money off our misery. But last I knew they put their pants on the same way I do. One leg at a time. You have to be a fool to not want to vote for this. Or a member of the Senate or Congress.

The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only 3 months & 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded it. That was in 1971...before computers, before e-mail, before cell phones, etc. Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took 1 year or less to become the law of the land...all because of public pressure.

I'm asking each addressee to forward this email to a minimum of twenty people on your address list; in turn ask each of those to do likewise. In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message. This is one idea that really should be passed around. Congressional Reform Act of 2011
    1. No Tenure / No Pension. A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.

    2. Congress (past, present and future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.

    3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

    4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congress...

    4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

    5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

    6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

    7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/12. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work. If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will only take three days for most people (in the U.S.) to receive the message. Maybe it is time. THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS!!!!!

I support this amendment. They need to learn that they are NO different then the rest of us. Plus all those running our country should have there salaries frozen just like the rest of us. There salaries ARE ASTRONOMICAL. The Pres. wants to lower our debt have the Senators, Rep.& ALL our Elect Officials tighten there belts as we have. START & CUT BACK THERE SALARIES put a freeze on theirs. Have them pay for there retirement, Lord know with what they make it would be nothing to them. Goverment needs to be
treated as we the people are!!!!!

I feel that any new amendment to the constitution should be avoided at all costs. The United States can run out of amendments someday because the cacophony of ideas could be too much to bear. Each one is a new law and I'm for freedom:) Jordon Paul Peterson JPP

I couldn't support the above statement more!!!! However, I will not sign the petition until they change the part that reads "That all persons born or naturalized in the United States of America, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States.........." to "That all persons born to CITIZENS of the United States of America......." Laws are to keep honest people honest, hench, they don't work on criminals. People elected to political office should have high morals and standards but what is to keep them from padding their pockets and getting rich off the people they looked in the face while shaking their hands and swore to serve? The possibility of losing their meal ticket, their office, and that can be a long, drawn out process.
I am for anything short of communism, socialism, islam or bringing back vigilantes that would get our political world back in control of the people. Now, let's see how many of our esteemed politicians actually back and vote for this.

I apologize for my diversion from the original question here. However I am left wondering?

Please ask yourself this, if we can not pass this amendment, can we in fact do anything in these matters? My answer is no, nothing. Nothing equals zero, zero is a vacuum; “We the people” are in a vacuum. I don’t know about you, but in this vacuum that Washington has created for us it’s hard to breathe. In essence all of our votes for politicians are moot and they will have no real bearing for what we want our future to be. Oh yes we are foolhardily obliged and free to continue to bitch about the state of the state and as previously acknowledged “we the people” can be “along for the ride”. Somewhere in time these abuses must stop. A resolve like this amendment would make a true statement of how we feel and what we are willing to do about it. I will vote for this amendment because I want out of the car for I am very disappointed in the ride. There is power in the people and what we can do in these matters when we all together just focus.

Toola, you are so right, and I am so hopelessly wondering WHY this continues as it is. I have faith in people; certainly all our people in congress and the senate are not doing their terms for selfish reasons. How can we possibly have such good for so few who are there to help the many, and yet the few are the people who benefit ? How many of us get such a terrible ache in our hearts ? You can compare our condition to the big bully who hits his wife.
