Huge waste of taxpayer money. The UAW took all the money -- NOT GM! The Union was bailed out to save the pension fund and they paid out millions in pension bonuses. Meanwhile, 20,000 Delphi workers ... the non-union workers ... were stripped of their retirement benefits under pressure put on by the regime.

I can't tell how sickening and disgusting that was to read, but yes, exactly like that. Non union Americans and the rest of us who are being savaged at the hands of this administration will have to take care of each other or we will not survive. It is NOT the governments job or duty to rescue ANY company, to do so would be letting the government pick the winners and loser's, that is in a nut shell what communism does.

We have plenty of money and assets. We have a cash flow problem.

As to Michelle's comments - a little stupid to say in the public forum, but as a frequent visitor to Scandinavia myself I know the feeling.... For years I considered pleading Canadian to discussions of GWB's latest comment. In addition Europeans (who have their own cultural issues) have for years overstated the American racial issues (which are real but getting better and better) so to have an African American elected really shocked them.

Sure it was part of your point, but I was amused at the example you chose to use, when Michelle had said practically the same thing, and NO spin was necessary. She foolishly said it and meant every word of it.

Europeans have long delighted in pointing out the perceived ignorance of Americans. There is often bewilderment on their part that such apparently stupid people can be so rich and powerful.

And of course, Obama has not disappointed in that department. "Polish death camps", "Austrian language".

Somebody has to pay for all this so called rescuing. Who do you suppose that is? Chevy/GM parts are mostly manufactured overseas and may be assembled to some degree here in the USA but the fact is it that all the electronics etc... are not.

So we use government credit to start building electronics and other things in the US. The government takes a share of the profits and pays off the loans for the investments and keeps a little more to pay down the debt. In the mean time less people are on welfare because they can find jobs. America gets stronger because we are making more essential things here and importing less.

We have plenty of out of work machinists, middle managers, and others to staff these things. We have plenty of resources for the raw materials. This time we can put a buy American clause in the law.

In the long run by having the government keep a share of each of these businesses we reduce taxes because the government will continue to receive dividends from the profits.

Basically all this is doing is applying standard business practice to the government. For the vast majority of employees it should be no different from working for a large corporation. Though possibly a good profit sharing program could be set up to encourage productivity.

I see some partial truths in what you say. Unfortunately that is not always the way things tend to work because big government does not manage these things well without corruption and it manifests it way in while we are being trusting. Just a fuel for thought and thank you.

Big business is just as corrupt as big government, maybe more so.

At least big business corruption is using private dollars. Big government corruption uses hard working people's tax dollars.
