On this day, August 4, 1964, Democrat President Lyndon Baines Johnson addressed the people of the United States from radio and television:

My fellow Americans:

As President and Commander in Chief, it is my duty to the American people to report that renewed hostile actions against United States ships on the high seas in the Gulf of Tonkin have today required me to order the military forces of the United States to take action in reply.

Johnson’s report resulted in the passage by Congress of the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, which granted President Johnson the authority to go to war to assist any Southeast Asian country whose government was considered to be jeopardized by “communist aggression.” The resolution served as Johnson’s legal justification for deploying U.S. conventional forces and the commencement of open warfare against North Vietnam.

Fifty thousand Americans would lose their lives over the next ten years. Estimates of the total number of human beings who were killed in the Vietnam “conflict” (Congress never declared it a “war”) ranges from 1,260,000 to 2,707,000.

They died in vain.

The world now knows that nothing happened on August 4, 1964.

In 2005, an internal National Security Agency historical study was declassified; it concluded that there were no North Vietnamese Naval vessels present during the incident of August 4th. The report concluded, “It is not simply that there is a different story as to what happened; it is that no attack happened that night.”

President Johnson would later comment privately, “For all I know, our Navy was shooting at whales out there.”

Question: Why were U.S. Destroyers in Vietnamese waters?

Answer: By 1964, America, once a Christian nation, was now a secular nation governed by Secular Humanists in Washington D.C., who did not understand what James Billington, Librarian of Congress, and Christian scholars like Francis Nigel Lee understood: Communism is a false religion. Socialist revolutionaries throughout the preceding centuries self-consciously imitated Christianity. When a nation that is truly a “City upon a Hill” and “a light unto the nations” wants to overcome communism, it sends competently trained missionaries, not the Marines.

Will President Obama follow his Democrat predecessor and tell Congress and the American people that something happened in Syria that warrants U.S. involvement in a war that would quickly spread to Iran? Would U.S. military engagement “unite the nation” and help Obama’s re-election efforts in November?

Don’t rule it out.
