Of course, it's been almost 600 years since a Pope resigned and it is very rare in our world for someone to give up power willingly.

But in hindsight, his health has been deteriorating and I can understand why he would not want the last years of his life clinging to a position he can no longer serve in the best interest of the Catholic Church.

I applaud a man with so much power who is willing to step down and turn things over to the next elected man because he feels he no longer has the strenght or health to do his job properly. Very few people would do this.

I'm looking for a reply from a person well schooled in Catholicism and the book of Revelations as it pertains to the Catholic Church.

Is this next Pope the last Pope before the appearance of the anti-Christ?

This is rare. Hasn't happened in six centuries. I'll remember this Pope as someone who was modern in some sense, but stuck to our Church's principles. I hope that the Church does moderate on the homosexuality issue though.

I think he did the right thing for the Church. He must know the Church cannot continue on it's way with 14th Century social policies and remain relevant to the world today. And, he
is quite feble but could live for many years as have other Popes, leaving the Church flooundering in it's own "traditions" and centralized powers of the infirmed leader.

    Good bye and good riddance.

Now please take the rest of the pedophiles out with ya.

Those that cover up the actions of others are condoning them and are just as guilty as if they had done the deed themselves.

Way to lump all Catholics into the pedophile group! Do you call all Muslims terrorists, or all Germans Nazi's?

The difference is that those groups do not have one overarching leadership that supports those activities.

The islam faith does not have a 'pope' like position, so the highest level of leadership you can look to is only to that mosque. Or in certain countries, a few spots higher then that but there is none for the religion as a whole.

Germans have BANNED any nazi symbolism in Germany. That's the complete 180 oppositt of condoning and hiding that activity from those that want to punish it.

    Your examples need work.

Really... Saudi Arabia may think it's the heartland of Islam but they most certainly don't rule over it.

You are right. But Sunni Muslims look up to the King, who is viewed very favorably by Muslims.

Favorable and follow blindly are far different. If the pope said X day was a holiday, I don't any catholic who would argue. If the king of Saudi Arabia tried that... I know of too many who follow Islam who will look at him funny and shrug it off (or have some choice words about arrogance).

The only surprise is that this organization is still dominating the minds of even the most gullible in the 21st century. The media, wanting to massage the artificial relevance of the church propagates the mysticism of the appointed by committee “Vicar of Christ” rather than the hoarding greed of the organization this person represents. At some point this self-reverential group of pedophilic misogynists will see their opulent city and cathedrals burned to the ground, but the question is why hasn’t it already happened?

Not shocked, only mildly surprised. I don't really pay much attention to the Pope, and I was not aware of his failing health. All I know is, you're going to hear a lot of the conspiracy nuts coming forward again, since either Benedict or his successor (depending on how you count them) is allegedly the "last Pope".
