Politics aside, does Barack Obama's race make him a more or less attractive candidate to you?

SodaHead Politics 2008/09/22 22:55:11
Barack Obama's race is a plus for me: A vote for Obama is a vote against racism.
Barack Obama's race makes me less likely to vote for him because...
Barack Obama's race is irrelevant in my view of him as a presidential candidate.

Barack Obama's race makes his battle for the presidency an uphill one, a poll suggests. According to the poll, Obama would receive about 6 more percentage points if there was no racial prejudice. The main reason is that 40 percent of white Americans have at least a partly negative view toward blacks. In an interview on "60 Minutes", Obama said that there may be people voting for him because of his race, potentially negating the effect of those who vote against him based on race. However, the former effect may be negligible, as Democrats typically get close to 90 percent of the African-American vote.

Barack Obama is head and shoulders above Mccain in so many ways that if he were purple with pink polka dots, I would still vote for him. Who cares what color he is. I'm more interested in his intelligence, his calmness under pressure and his understanding of what it's like for those who are struggling to deal with our economy that is currently in shambles...thanks to eight years of the Bush administration.

It's not the most important thing BY FAR but he can represent majority of the people and he is also very cultured so I think that he knows a bit of what different races are going through and what issues hold a lot of weight in their eyes and America as a whole.

i don't want to sound racist for white people, but i really think that to have an african american for president of a very influent country is something that is going to live in history, the first african american president in the united states of america in 2008, that is something that makes me happy... there won't be more coments of a racist gobernment no more.

It is irrelevant to me becuase but to probably half of the people that voted for him it was a huge deal. There were millions of people that just voted for him because of his race. Now people will begin to see that there is a reverse racism trend in the US. White people have to be politically correct where ever they are while black people can damn "Whitey" with no retribution. There were millions of white people that voted Obama just to prove that they were not racist. The news played the "Bradley effect" card so good that it was actually resulted in a reverse effect. But I would not have voted for him even if he looked like white Victoria Secret model becuase I disagree with his political view.

This is just an inane question. Since when does the color of our skin relegate what our views, opinions, or ideas are???? And not only that, but in this instance, the man running, Obama, is more Caucasian than he is Arab, or Black. But he seems to favor his 6.25% black over his 50% Caucasian or his 43.75% Arab. (Arab is a race, it's also a language ~ Arabic, but it is not a religion). But, that is his heritage and also his perogative to favor one over the other. So, yeah, this is just an ignorant question. One's race should not be used to judge them one way or the other.

I am moslty voting for him because I saw a spark of an intelligent, charasmatic and global leader who will has a world view. I also believe he will help advance minority causes particularly for blacks and has the best chance of improving our global image because he as actually lived in a foreign country. I don't believe we should ever again have another president who hasn't lived outside the U.S. for at least a year or more.

Obama's race is definitely a historic plus, but definitely not the reason why I voted for him. I, like many other americans, just want change. I want to see American flourish again and maintain its superpower status, not only for the wealthy, but for all of us.
