Politics aside, does Barack Obama's race make him a more or less attractive candidate to you?

SodaHead Politics 2008/09/22 22:55:11
Barack Obama's race is a plus for me: A vote for Obama is a vote against racism.
Barack Obama's race makes me less likely to vote for him because...
Barack Obama's race is irrelevant in my view of him as a presidential candidate.

Barack Obama's race makes his battle for the presidency an uphill one, a poll suggests. According to the poll, Obama would receive about 6 more percentage points if there was no racial prejudice. The main reason is that 40 percent of white Americans have at least a partly negative view toward blacks. In an interview on "60 Minutes", Obama said that there may be people voting for him because of his race, potentially negating the effect of those who vote against him based on race. However, the former effect may be negligible, as Democrats typically get close to 90 percent of the African-American vote.

Barack Obama is head and shoulders above Mccain in so many ways that if he were purple with pink polka dots, I would still vote for him. Who cares what color he is. I'm more interested in his intelligence, his calmness under pressure and his understanding of what it's like for those who are struggling to deal with our economy that is currently in shambles...thanks to eight years of the Bush administration.

First, it is so boooring to see him speaking, can you imaging seeing this guy over an over on tv. watching his demagoguerie. Second, just by listening a couple of statements I can tell he is a demagoge!!!. Third, I hate his ears and his demeanor and his voiiiiice!. I'm so happy that I was able to skip all the tv time he had for free on tv during election time. I couldnot stand it. Everytime he started I skip watching all the media. That continuous Uh, uh, eh, erh, etc. is He could take some clases from Clarance Thomas, a great voice or to improve his English and read some classics. He can also change a bit his strong drop of the words, oh, man! He could take an actors clase at the least . I do blame the media for his election and for the laxed rules on contributions, I know of an individual, not citizen, that contributed to his campaing, first in the primaries $2,000 and later another $2,000.00 An this is just one person that I know! Hoe many like him are there. Fourth, That pituful Mc Cain, Where is Mit Romney!!!
God save us! I will not turn on my TV ofr news any more!

I voted for him mainly because he is a democrat. Partly because the alternative is 72 years old and chose a totally imcompetent replacement and lastly Obama seems calmer, cooler and more intelligent.

I hope it can too, Kimi, but the change will come only with each child being half white and half black, and eventually eliminating the color scheme from the scene altogether. Thats what it will take. I have to pray on a daily basis that God in His wisdom has a hand in alll this. And I believe He does. Some people think they do, their wrong.

and there are a lot of white democrats who either didn't vote, or switched parties, because of his race. And, by the way, so what if they did vote for him because of his race, don't you think they have a right to after 2 centuries of persecution at the hands of white people.

And, not all black Americans are from Africa
  • sponged... it's me 2008/11/28 05:53:58
    spongedebfatpants
Voting for him because of his race is racism. And it's time they get over the "my ancestors were slaves so I deserve to do this and get that crap". It's no one's fault today that people were once slaves. And you are right that not all black Americans are from Africa but most insist that they be called African American. My father is Cherokee and my mother is Italian/Lithuanian but i don't ask to be called a Cherokee Italian Lithuanian American. I also don't blame the people of today for killing and taking the American Indians land.

are you aware of the fact that up until 1964 black americans were not allowed to vote? that black americans had to drink from separate water fountains? sit in the back of the bus? routinely killed for no fuckin reason? HUNG from a tree, with a noose that then became a terrifying warning to them?
you were born in 1972ish? that was 8 years before you were born...do you think that kind of unholy treatment could be so easily forgotten? do you realize that the civil war ended in 1863, the slaves were freed, but it took 99 years for them to be allowed to vote? I THINK IT'S FRIGGIN AMAZING THAT IT'S ONLY BEEN 44 YEARS SINCE BLACK AMERICANS COULD VOTE TO A BLACK AMERICAN BEING ELECTED!!! Do you further realize that there are millions of white redneck and whitetrash Americans who absolutely HATE black people?
you need to get out a history book and read, honey. you need to wake up. it will take 3 or 4 generations of americans for black people to come close to feeling equal and loved and welcome in this country...the country that belongs to ALL of us. wake the fuck up!

hey...i hate george bush, always have...don't blame me...my voted was swindled away when they stole the victory from Al Gore and John Kerry.

The republicans are starting to feel like, I don't know....I think Nazi is a little strong, but what jeb, george sr., dubbya and a few dirty republicans did to America in November 2000 was not only against the law, devious, disgusting and infuriating...but someone should pay, someone should investigate, someone should rip all the wealth out of the bush family - so at least they know what it feels like. See, now I'm all pissed off again...
