Politics aside, does Barack Obama's race make him a more or less attractive candidate to you?

Politics 2008/09/22 22:55:11
Barack Obama's race is a plus for me: A vote for Obama is a vote against racism.
Barack Obama's race makes me less likely to vote for him because...
Barack Obama's race is irrelevant in my view of him as a presidential candidate.
You!

Barack Obama's race makes his battle for the presidency an uphill one, a poll suggests. According to the poll, Obama would receive about 6 more percentage points if there was no racial prejudice. The main reason is that 40 percent of white Americans have at least a partly negative view toward blacks. In an interview on "60 Minutes", Obama said that there may be people voting for him because of his race, potentially negating the effect of those who vote against him based on race. However, the former effect may be negligible, as Democrats typically get close to 90 percent of the African-American vote.

Barack Obama is head and shoulders above Mccain in so many ways that if he were purple with pink polka dots, I would still vote for him. Who cares what color he is. I'm more interested in his intelligence, his calmness under pressure and his understanding of what it's like for those who are struggling to deal with our economy that is currently in shambles...thanks to eight years of the Bush administration.

Can't tell races apart anyway... nor do I wish to learn such a skill. Makes no difference to me which branches of the human race someone's ancestors came from.

I also could not care about Obama's, or any other candidate's, race! I do pay a lot of attention to his record, rhetoric and associations! I would not have voted for Obama no matter what his color/race. However, I do believe his race made him a more desirable candidate for way too many people!

Pres. Obama has a broader perspective than any President in History. Lived internationally. Multi-Cultural Very smart and Wise too! His wife Michelle is a real asset on our team, also. We got lucky... Too bad he has so many crooks around him... in the senate the house... There are a lot of self serving people... That is why he mentioned it. We need to pitch in and rise above the pettiness...

Blacks should not have political power over whites in this country which was basically founded by and governed by white Europeans and their culture for over two centuries. His election errodes our heritage.

I think that G. Bush ignored warnings by the terrorists (Ben Laden). He admitted he was warned but used the feeble excuse that he did not know when or where. All he had to do was "beef up security at the airports" and he did not. This is public record.
  • marielp marylou 2009/05/20 17:34:01

It was not Clinton that ignored warnings that were sent by Ben Laden in August of 9/11 it was George Bush and Condolezza admitted this before Congress on TV.
President Clinton missed the opportunity to kill Ben Laden but there was no warnings of the future 9/11 at that time.

Well, President Obama is NOT a black muslim, so you would not have voted for one. However, if he were a muslim, black or otherwise, as long as anyone is a law-abiding AMERICAN CITIZEN, they have as much rights as anyone! Remember we are a free society. Freedom of speech and freedom of religion are a few of those rights. We may not always agree with others choice of religion, but we should respect another's right to choose. If GOD himself gives us the right of free will, who are we to force someone to our will? I voted for Obama, that was my choice and my right...if you agree with it or not. You voted for McCain, that was your choice and your right , I disagree with your choice, but I damn sure respect your right to do it!
