My Step-daughter made a real goof up working as a waitress in Alaska.
She went to this table and asked for their order and it was a black man who was also an albino. The rest of the wait staff really told her off.

Grouping all light skinned as white including some Africans yes. I know an Ethiopian that isn't much darker skinned than I am. Does that make him white?

I don't find it offensive. Because I am a mix of so many european countries, it would be insanely inconvenient to say I am a mix between this and this and this and this and this, so it is just much easier to say that I am white.
