Sanford, Fla., has fired Bill Lee, the police chief who initially oversaw the controversial investigation into a neighborhood watch captain's fatal shooting of a 17-year-old, Trayvon Martin. The initial lack of an arrest drove widespread protests and propelled the case into national headlines.

"After much thoughtful discussion and deep consideration for the issues facing the city of Sanford, I have determined the police chief needs to have the trust and respect of the elected officials and the confidence of the entire community," Sanford City Manager Norton Bonaparte was quoted saying in the city's statement. "We need to move forward with a police chief that all the citizens of Sanford can support. I have come to this decision in light of the escalating divisiveness that has taken hold of the city." No surprise. His department did a disastrously poor job of investigating that case. It showed a complete lack of training and discipline.

The DA will probably be next.

First of all, the gun wasn't even impounded for ballistics. This is ALWAYS done in a shooting. The rest is explained in this New York Times article:

Who gives a damn about your heritage … hell white slave owners sold their black children during slavery times… I am so over bigots stating that some of my best friends are (insert a race of color) miss me with that statement. Idiot … only an idiot would state that the police did the right thing … they only did the right thing when Trayvon parents let the travesty be known … if it was not for Trayvon’s mom and dad due diligence and the support of sane minded Americans this case would have been swept away the way you and the former police chief wanted … You can profile anyone however, when you profile a person and murder them it is wrong … even your dimwit self should understand that you do not have to be perfect or a rocket scientist just a sane human. You are a supporter of a murder … and your rainbow coalition family is disappointed in you … haters will hate ….. hi hater :0) … and bigots will be bigots …. peace out bigot!

Overly sensitive idiot. If I could I'd slap you. My rainbow coalition of a family has more pride in me than ever. You're quick to judge both parties. I never said what Zimmerman did was right, did I. Simply stating both parties caused a confrontation and it ended violently. I'm supporting you jack ass. No one will ever know what happened. and that's how its going to be. Trayvon did something, Zimmerman did something. Not Zimmerman wanted to murder some child, not Tray von was looking for trouble. They both had a part. Zimmerman most likely got scared and shot the kid, not in cold blood. And not in premeditated murder.

Oh biotch I wish you would have the opportunity to slap me … I would stump you’re a$$ … you people are so violent … but I will give back twice as hard as you give … Sure your rainbow collation are proud of you … I am sure that they appreciate you using their heritage to enable you to justify a point … our deny your true bigotry … that is exactly the same sentiments of slave owner children … the felt grand when they gave their half black brother/sister an extra piece of bread …. Not to mention after they have worked from sun up to sun down … sure those mix breed slaves was proud of their family member too … How can you say both parties caused the confrontation … the audacity of Trayvon walking home with a can tea and candy in his daddy neighborhood; he should have known that warranted him to be stalked and murdered by Zimmerman … You are not supporting me idiot … my baby was not murdered … stay on point. Zimmerman knows exactly what happened … and do you really think he will tell the truth? His creditability is all ready in question …. Gee and you said your family is proud … let you tell it! When you make a pre-judgment to stalk a child simply because he is black and wearing a hooded sweat shirt with your firearm … You are up to NO GOOD! Spare me your simple argument …

Remember, Trayvon had Skittles and tea in hand. He did NOT start a confrontation. He was scared as he stated to his girlfriend. Only one caused the confrontation and he had a gun and stalked the boy. The boy tried to keep from being shot. That's defending your life, not starting a confrontation.

Trayvon was walking home minding his own business.

I don't think premeditation was involved either, but Zimmerman did not have the Authotity to carry a gun or stalk a stranger, especially a boy. I think he wanted to play cop. Obviously, that wasn't the right role for him to fantasize about.

I do remember there being witnesses reporting a confrontation between the two. Zimmerman only followed this child due to the fact that Trayvon was spotted in front of a house that was recently broken into. That was one of the reasons. Skittles and a can of Arizona had nothing to do with this.

I can understand Trayvon's statement of being scared. In Martin's situation I would probably have beat the crap out of some guy following me around. Now we'll never know exactly what happened, but Zimmerman did not determine that this child needed to die. He did kill Trayvon and as a result he needs to be put in jail. Manslaughter would be appropriate.

the 911 tape shows that Trayvon did nothing but come into the complex and then pass by Zimmerman's truck. it's in Zimmerman's own words. he thought trayvon was a suspicious person, just because he didn't recognize trayvon.

That was another reason Zimmerman had followed Trayvon. He knew basically everyone in his neighborhood. Trayvon, as Zimmerman put it, was spotted near one of the houses that had recently been broke in. The combonation of not knowing him and being near one of the houses that had been broken into caused him to have a bad reaction.

He wasn't just walking through the neighborhood - this is a gated community - he had to make some effort to cut through. And, Zimmerman said he wasn't just making a bee-line, he was meandering and loitering, which is what made him suspect. He didn't recognize him because he was living with his father during a 10 day suspension from school and so was not a local.

This was a perfect storm of circumstances and I'm personally glad the court is the one who will return the verdict and not me --- which is how it should be. No one has the right to pass judgment on this case without hearing all the evidence.

Your post supported my point. "It’s raining and he’s just walking around looking about." Does that sound like someone making a bee-line?

There had been 8 reported burglaries in the area over the last few months, one just a week or so before the shooting. One neighbor was terrorized with her baby in her home when two black teens just walked into her house. in the middle of the day. She ran upstairs and locked herself and her baby in a bedroom while calling the police. The police came in time to keep the burglars from stealing her TV, but not in time to keep her life from being overturned. She and her husband moved away that same week. This was in the same block as the Zimmerman's. The two young men were never found.

Another Twin Lake citizen was broken into after construction crews noticed two black teens loitering near a home and called the police. The police didn't get there in time and they got away.

After this Zimmerman was told by the Twin Lake management establishment to organize a neighborhood watch.

Like I said - all the circumstances were there for a perfect storm. A

Whatever idiocy his 20's wrought in his life (a police record) he obviously straightened up as there were no more incidents after 2005 (that's 8 years with a clean record).

All of this will come out in the case and the jury will decide. Unless you are on the jury - YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO PASS VERDICT!!! And that is the end of this conversation because you talk in circles and hear nothing.

so you're saying that someone should be executed for the crime of being 6'2" and black.

Trayvon had 2 tattoos: one was the name of his girlfriend the other said, "Nana" as in "grandma." yep, some gang tats. and having tattoos is certainly an executable offense, as we all know.

I will bet dollars to doughnuts that you call yourself a Christian.
may God have mercy on your soul when your time of judgment comes. remember the admonition to 'judge not?'
yet you have decided that this 17 year old deserved to be executed for walking down the street carrying tea and candy.

You show me anywhere where I have said Treyvon deserved to die because he was tattooed or big.

The picture accompanying this blog and it's mass distribution as an image of the "boy" that was killed is what I took issue with. That picture is 6 years old. (Edited due to misunderstanding of who was depicted)

This picture shows a 17 year old full grown man with tattoos on his face, neck and both hands. It is the most recent one I can find and in this pictures he's obviously proud of his tats - so my question is WHY ISN'T this picture - the more recent one, being used when discussions are taking place? WHY? Because it throws a whole other light on the subject and the press and the black community knows it.

I do not attempt to pass judgment as to the heart of Zimmerman - that will be up to the jury - but I'm sick to death of the media manipulation of facts.

You are not in the majority here. Does that tell you something. THIS fiasco started when Zimmerman lied, his Dad lied, the Police lied, Zimmermans wife lied....etc.

Drug use? Got caught with a little pot. You probably have a little in your drawer right now.
Violence? Heres why he was suspended from school:

" Martin was suspended for ten days, not five, for being in an unauthorized area on school property, not a violent behavioral issue, as the Miami Herald indicates he did have behavior problems of some non-violent type. Still, an Orlando Sentinel story quotes a teacher as saying he was suspended for being tardy and had no behavior issues."

You're just assuming the Right Winged media is right in their made up overblown stories.
    Read the facts next time!

Oh yeah, being in the minority on a skewed opinion page like this one is really one of my greatest fears!! Pffffffft!

Anyone who believes that public school officials would suspend a student for 10 days because of tardies is asinine. My daughter was caught playing with a lighter in the girls bathroom - something that put the whole school at risk - and she was suspended for 2 days. TWO DAYS!! A ten day suspension is a WHOLE LOT more serious than simple tardies...I don't care what liberal news media you quote. That's just plain common sense - obviously something you know little about.

He was found with jewerly that didn't belong to him and screwdriver in his backpack and in the past he was suspended for graffiti.

Does that mean he deserved to die - NO! But it certainly should make you wonder why all of this information is only now coming out while over the last several months Treyvon has been depicted as a 12 year old mama's boy. At least try and think outside the box the libs have you in.

It was JUST tardiness. He was also in an area of the school grounds students aren't allowed. Still, not a violent thing. These added up to a suspension.

I am not racist. I'm the one for the child, remember. Maybe you should check yourself. You're the one posting photos of grown men who are NOT Trayvon without doing your homework.

"In October, Martin was suspended with friends for writing “W.T.F.” on a hallway locker, according to a school report obtained by the Herald. A security guard looking through his backpack for the graffiti marker and instead found women’s rings and earrings and a screwdriver, described by the staffer as a “burglary tool.”

Trayvon Martin, the teenager whose shooting death has sparked a national uproar, was suspended from school last month for having a baggie that contained marijuana residue in his book bag, a family spokesman said Monday." (MSNBC report)

Don't know what your sources are, but there are plenty out there about Treyvon being on the edge of unlawfulness. Does that mean he deserves to be killed - NO!

But it does beg the question as to why he's been painted as an innocent 12 year old in order to stir up the black community and try, convict and hang Zimmerman in the court of public opinion.

All I'm saying is let the courts do their job and stop with the inflamtory hate spewing long enough to hear the evidence. That's really not unreasonable.
