No surprise. His department did a disastrously poor job of investigating that case. It showed a complete lack of training and discipline.
The DA will probably be next.

Sanford, Fla., has fired Bill Lee, the police chief who initially oversaw the controversial investigation into a neighborhood watch captain's fatal shooting of a 17-year-old, Trayvon Martin. The initial lack of an arrest drove widespread protests and propelled the case into national headlines.
"After much thoughtful discussion and deep consideration for the issues facing the city of Sanford, I have determined the police chief needs to have the trust and respect of the elected officials and the confidence of the entire community," Sanford City Manager Norton Bonaparte was quoted saying in the city's statement. "We need to move forward with a police chief that all the citizens of Sanford can support. I have come to this decision in light of the escalating divisiveness that has taken hold of the city." The clamor had died down by the time the chief was terminated. What pressure are you talking about?
Tester: "Did you confront the guy you shot?" Zimmerman: "No."
Tester: "Were you in fear for your life, when you shot the guy?" Zimmerman: "Yes."
Officials determined that the neighborhood watch volunteer "told substantially the complete truth in regards to this examination," the report said.
The report was part of more audio and video recordings and police documents released by the prosecutor's office.
Last week, Zimmerman's attorney Mark O'Mara released some of the same audio and video recordings and written statements that his client gave police after the shooting.
Zimmerman says Trayvon knocked him to the ground with a punch to the nose, then repeatedly banged his head into the pavement. He told police he shot Trayvon after the teen went for Zimmerman's gun that was holstered in his hip"
Obviously the story has not died, nor have the protests across the nation.
.
Yes, we have heard Zimmerman's version of the story. Unfortunately, we won't be hearing Trayvon's version, except for the tape of his conversation with his girlfriend on her cell phone while Zimmermann was accosting him.
Polygraph tests are not admissible in court, for an obvious reason. They are unreliable. Someday they will come up with one that can be verified as accurate, but that day has not yet arrived.
Those are simple facts, and ratings and sales have nothing to do with it.
We continue to disagree on which opinions are correct. Perhaps it is time for all of us to step back and allow the legal system to take its course.
