I've been to pubs in England where families were gathered .No I woudn't forget my kids. In this case the PM and his wife were in different cars so I suppose each one thought the child was with the other parent.

THAT was the question I HAD ..
when I first read the story ..
WHO takes their child .. minor .. at any age ..
    INTO A PUB????

(and as a Single parent .. I never left my child anywhere .. they were with me .. they knew the safety rules .. stick with mommy .. and mommy does NOT Take children to the Pub!)

My Dad owned bars and they have always been family places. So yes, I would take my kids to a bar, especially if it is my Mom's cooking, yummy.

Would I leave my kid, never.

Pubs are eateries in the UK so it's not much different than a Restaurant that serves beer at the bar.

Um not quite, but many pubs have a garden or family area out back. More so in summer (if we get one!), in winter the pubs are pretty much for adults having a good old p*ss up !

I go to tons of pubs throughout England and kids are welcomed.

They're the nice ones :-) Brits often complain that kids are not welcomed in pubs and restaurants like they are in Europe. Also we now have more of a binge drinking culture which makes some city centres almost no go areas some nights :-(

No not tourist pups. The one just doors from our house isn't a tourist pub and we go in their with the kids all the time.

I never took any of my children to a bar where it was designed solely for the purpose of consuming alcohol.

My alcoholic father took me with him to bars at 9.. I remember playing the bowling machine. I was driving the old drunk home when I was 13... I swore my kids would have have to do that!

"The Camerons and children Nancy, Arthur, six, and 22-month-old Florence had been having Sunday lunch with two other families at the Plough Inn near the PM’s country home Chequers. Afterwards the PM went home in a car flanked by bodyguards, thinking Nancy was with Sam and their other children in a second vehicle. "

It is rather imbarrassing I am sure but a pub is not what most Americans might imagine and it certainly wouldn't be the first time that parents got distracted and drove off minus a child.

Oh most pubs are pretty much adult drinking holes, esp in winter and at night. But at weekends and summer most have a garden and tables for families. One thing Americans always get wrong about British pubs (TV, movies etc) is there is usually no waiting staff, you go to the bar to get served.
Waitresses in The Old Dog and Duck? Never old bean!!
