I don't think anyone was ever seriously advocating for the pistol whipping of nuns. It was a joke. It was not funny. It was in poor taste. I don't see it as a genuine endorsement for violence against either women or Catholics.

Perhaps Jan Mickelson does harbor hostile feelings toward Catholics and women. I do not know.

Mickelson has said plenty of terrible things in earnest. We don't need to sift through his jokes to find him lacking in compassion and morality.

For example, Mickelson once said, "Homosexuality is intrinsically promiscuous, because it violates the design of our bodies. There is no safe way to do that.”
