People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), known for its ads featuring naked celebrities, is taking its racy marketing to another level.
In preparation for the launch of the .xxx Internet domain, the ICM Registry is accepting applications from owners who want to protect their brands. PETA is signing up, but not for protection. The animal rights organization wants to launch its own porn site.
"We live in a 24 hour news cycle world and we learn the racy things we do are sometimes the most effective way that we can reach particular individuals," said PETA spokeswoman Lindsay Rajt.
Unlike PETA's long-standing "I'd rather go naked than wear fur" ad campaign, "www.peta.xxx" will promote veganism.
"We really want to grab people's attention, get them talking and to question the status quo and ultimately take action, because the best way we can help the greatest number of animals is simply by not eating them," said Rajt.
According to PETA, the site will contain a mixture of adult content and graphic images of animals being mistreated. They also said that the site may feature some celebrities, but that there will be "a lot of girl and boy next door content."
What do you think? Is PETA's decision to launch a porn site clever or crass?

Cotton still exsist lol
BTW, all PETA members have leather goods of some kind. The fur thing is rank hypocrisy.
I was accosted by PETA last weekend outside the DC Museum of Natural History just before I went in and looked at all the stuffed animals and animal skeletons.
well PETA should know better
I am sure that their is some underground porn that utilizes sex traffic, I would be an idiot to say that it's not possible, however main stream porn is not sex traffic.
besides, I have never liked porn or PETA anyway...
I don't think that billboard is still up, though. They've moved on to other ad campaigns.
