Pennsylvania Bans 'Bath Salts': Are You Concerned About Synthetic Drugs?

The world is seeing a rise in the availability and use of synthetic drugs, many of which are not illegal, just as reports emerge that the use of cocaine and heroin are falling.

Pennsylvania is one of about half of U.S. states moving to ban the easy to find synthetic drugs.

"If left unchecked, synthetic drugs could have developed into the most dangerous drug crisis since methamphetamine labs found their way into our state."

These drugs can be made to evade legal barriers, and can even be described as legal highs. Are you concerned about their availability or are they just another drug on the market?

I know first hand how bad this crap is. My bf has been a user for a few months now and he's gotten progressively worse with prolonged use. The hullicinations and paranoia is sooooooooo ridiculous!! He claims people live inthe walls, that our house is litered with cameras. Every hole in the wall is a " spy hole" for the people who live in the walls. He claims that I'm cheating on him at the very same moment that he's with me in our bed toghether. He's barricaded himself in a room screaming the police are surrounding the house. He's claimed to captured and locked a person in our utility room. He takes hundreds of pictures of shadows throughout the house swearing they are people. He claims these same people are taking his belongings when he's the one that places them somewhere. Evenout in the open. This stuff is a terrible legal form of meth and cocaine and yet the after affects are far worse and more detrimental, the worst part is the users do not believe thes effects are from the drug and refuse treatment as well as refuse to quit. They don't see it how we see them . I wish he'd become the next suicide statistic ( yes it's gotten that bad ). In just 4 months or so

When I went home a while back and visited my brother he explained how a mutual friend of ours is addicted to these bath salts, he is lying to his wife and hiding his usage, his boss even sent him home because of his erratic behavior. I've seen people addicted to drugs and his case is every bit as bad, it's literally frying his brain. And from what I have read many people are ending up in the emergency room after abusing these bath salts, they are not a harmless drug legal or not. people emergency room abusing bath salts harmless drug legal bath salts drugs

I don't care because people can get into anything (e.g. nutmeg) in an attempt to get high and it can all be dangerous - why is this really any different?

Make whatever you want illegal. Preach abstinence instead of education. All you're gonna get is something new being used in some manner that is unsafe, gladly provided by a violent and lawless black market.
    Why?
Because when people want to get high, they will. They'll find something. They'll huff glue. They'll drink gasoline. Or they'll use a touch of ingenuity and CREATE something that gives the same effect as that plant that grows out of the ground you told them so passionately to stay away from.

The battle of wits between those that enjoy getting high on substances that are not legal and those lawmakers that feel the need to have police enforce laws against it will go on , as new chemical compounds are discovered and passed around, the lawmakers will enact legislation to dry up the source of the raw chemicals , much like they took cold remedy compounds off the shelf , so it is an ongoing war of wits , maybe one solution is to not worry about the use of such compounds but instead , if someone gets on the public streets under the influence of intoxicants then throw the book at them and the federal government can bar them from public money being used to treat them of their problems that arise from the use of this stuff. You play with the snake and it bites , then your problem baby

It is not an accident that these "bath salts" are sold in head shops and smoke shops. The shop owners know what they are for. And frankly, how many teenaged boys take baths, much less use bath salts?

What concerns me is these 'synthetic' drugs are full of crap most people can't pronounce, and are very unlikely to be safe. As long as the war on drugs is alive, people are going to come up with these synthetics to try and mimic the 'real' thing. This is so much more dangerous than if we legalized drugs, and allowed real pharmaceutical companies to produce them so that people know EXACTLY what they are putting in their bodies. As long as there is an unregulated black market, you should be afraid of all these substances.

Hey alot of peyote and pot are also cut by dealers to add other chemcials to enhance the high. The message is that ingesting chemicals or drugs that aren't prescribed, isn't smart.

Technology is going to advance. Eventually all things can be manufactured. Science is just imitating mother nature anyway. As for fear of the inevitable 1 step at a time.

Yes and no.It's sad that somepeople are stupid enough to take them. However banning them will not work they will just find other ways to get them.I'm sure the Mexican drug cartels are ready to jump all over this.Keeping drugs illegal does for the drug Cartels what proibition did for the Mafia.

I was never concerned about it but for the sake of others I am glad that this stuff will be banned.

Cannabis on the other hand should be legal. It has a low side effects profile, especially in brownies.

Have you ever taken antibiotics to cure a nasty infection? How about something needed for long term use? Medicine has it's issues, yes.. but before the days of antibiotics and other life saving medications, life expectancy was much lower, woman died giving birth, etc. etc. etc.

I'm not saying they are money grubbing jerks, just that they do a lot of good and deserve some credit for that.

Are you saying we should let everyone die? It's not a yes/no kind of thing. Different medications have different risk/reward ratios.. it's up to the patient and his or her doctor to be informed and make their own decisions.
