Pelosi: Obamacare Means People Can Quit Their Jobs........Well, 47%, Anyway

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi encouraged Americans after the 2010 passage of the Affordable Care Act to quit their jobs to pursue creative and artistic ventures, many of which do not pay, because Obamacare would not keep them “job locked.”

These comments come into focus as Pelosi (D-CA) said today (see video below) that Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s comments about the 47% of Americans who do not pay federal income tax were “disparaging to our whole system” and revealed what Romney believed was not “in furtherance of the American dream for the American people.”

Pelosi implied the American dream rewarded those who “work hard, play by the rules, and take responsibility,” but her 2010 comments instead appear to encourage the same kind of government dependency lamented by Romney.

“We see it as an entrepreneurial bill,” Pelosi then said, “a bill that says to someone, if you want to be creative and be a musician or whatever, you can leave your work, focus on your talent, your skill, your passion, your aspirations because you will have health care. You won’t have to be job locked.”

On Wednesday, Pelosi claimed, "Democrats are committed to reigniting the American Dream and building ladders of opportunity,” and she interpreted Romney's words as essentially saying, “I’ll get my ladder and walk away.”

Pelosi also made a telling Freudian slip in her remarks today:"

"This unfortunately demonstrated the demeaning attitude that Governor Obama has toward a large segment of the American people."
