Pearl Harbor Day not in Publix supermarket's 2010 calendar. Mentions Islamic New Years which falls on same day. Calendar also features holidays as Puerto Rico Commonwealth Constitution Day and Haitian Flag Day. PC gone awry?

Not only is this a sign that the mental illness political correctness is out of control in our country but also a sign of a form of stealth jihad at work; replacing important occurences in American history with Islamic ones.

This is totally arrogant and sneaky. This is America and not a United Nation country, a muslim dominated country or mindless nation. I am glad they have decided to put Pearl Harbor day back on the calendar but they need to respond to the criticism with a public apology. Every veteran who has ever served needs to let them know this is not a matter of patriotism but respect. The idea of remembering a religious holiday out of respect for a religion and then choosing to ignore Americans that have served reeks of Political Correctness!

Yes, with all the rest of immature, crass and ugly comments I have seen here your comment is really lame. Say it as much as you want, there are others on this site that say more hurtful and ugly stuff. Of course, I relate them to about a 3rd to 5th grade education and new immigrants who know no better.

Aren't we on the same page. My uncle fought in the army in WWII, because of Pearl Harbor; his son in now somewhere in the middle east. Replacing Pearl Harbor Day with Islam New Years is not idea of an important American holiday observance.

I agree MkB. An American holiday has always been for the people not just for some. A religious holiday taking precendent over a national holiday is like taking placebos for the real drugs. One will work for some but not for all.

Where did you get the idea that there was anything wrong with expressing genuine, well reasoned emotional responses?

Emotional responses for a holiday is appropriate for all. The day of December 7th was a life changing event for all Americans and not just for one religious group. The difference in one to the other is simple both are different in views, lifestyle and history. You can have emotional responses to both but one effects the nation and the other a portion of the population. Why is it more important to leave out the majority of people because one group seems to need this attention? The Islam New Year has become the poster child of needless attention which to me is pretty lame. Be emotional if you must. Let America remember Our History, A National tragedy and the result of this change to our national conscience! One more simple point if not for Pearl Harbor you wouldn't have the freedom to be emotional either for Islam New Year or Pearl Harbor day.

Well, you're close. But political corectness is, unfortunately, not a doctrine limited to liberals; one doesn't have to be a liberal to practice it.
Political correctness is the obfuscation of facts and the denial of truths to support and promote an agenda, often polituical or religious.
The fact that people who don't support Obama are called racists is a tactic which involves attacking the messenger rather than examining the validity of the message; it's where a person exposed to an unpleasant truth tries to discredit the one who exposed them rather than try to disprove the truth.

It's not just Republicans but Democrats, liberals, conservatives, really, anyone can be guilty of this. It's a willingness to severely bend the truth or ignore the facts to support an idea. Such ideas are bad ones; that's why they need all the manufactured support.
