Paying to Promote Your Facebook Status: Tempting or Turn Off?

SodaHead News 2012/05/11 20:00:00
You!
Add Photos & Videos
Have you ever posted an obviously brilliant Facebook status and been disappointed when nobody "likes" it? Or maybe you desperately needed to find a roommate, but couldn't generate interest among your friends. That could be because, according to TechCrunch, your status updates only reach 12% of your Facebook friends. Sucks for you, but it could work out in Facebook's favor. The social network is now offering users the opportunity to "highlight" updates -- that is, get them out to more friends -- for a price.

A test group has been given the ability to promote status updates by clicking a "Highlight" link underneath the status they want to push, right next to the "Like" and "Comment" links. Clicking "Highlight" initiates a pricing and payment window that informs them how much it will be (something like $2) and asks how the user would like to pay. It's unclear exactly how much this feature highlights posts, but it apparently makes them visible to more people for a longer period of time, and pushes it higher up on their news feed. Facebook says it's just an experiment to "gauge people's interest in this method of sharing." So, we've got to ask: are you interested?

Paying for Pride, lol, I like that.
So we will know who the pathetic, loser SodaHeads are with a 'highlight'.
Yea, and they should have their profile picture be twice the size as all the rest of us so we know who these special needs sodaheads are, lol, go for it!!!!

I am not wasting a dime on anything about my status or social sites.
Besides, I am busy enough as it is!
But I do enjoy coming in here.
Make it only a sponsorship site.
As soon as I have to dig into my pocket, I will question why I am here....or there, for that matter. As far as Facebook, I have 300 friends going through my site...and 1,000's of emails as a webmaster. I do not need anymore friends...but I could use more business on eBay and my eStore. What I need is a secretary...to answer my emails. I am getting behind again.

    too many emails

Those that would pay for this, heck actually just anyone using the site at all, are just as the owner of fb thinks of them and has called all his users of the site...

Makes me not want to use Facebook anymore. Basically it is messing with everyone's news feed and that could get annoying.

Pathetic, although I can see this being a good way to circulate important information, such as missing persons posters or lost pet flyers. That said, if Facebook had good design, it would be easy to make important stuff seen WITHOUT needing to pay for it.

if your interested in whats going on with me, you'll already be looking at my profile im sure. i can understand using this while trying to sell something, that may be smart, and having to pay for the highlight would make others, who are just attention whoring, less likely to use the tool excessivly to take away the importance of an actual important post. but if i need to tell my friends something, ill just call them x.x

Still trolling are you; number one, Africa has many other ethnic groups in their countries as well. French, Chinese, Arabs, etc...live in African countries as well. You are clueless and extremely dimwitted.

Why would you waste your money on something that other people really don't care about? Not to be rude, but people who said tempting are just sad, needy, and attention-seeking people.

The fun here is that it is free. I do not mind that it is full of commercials. I only when one of the animated commercials messes up my vote. Some of the quarter screen animations take precedence on my computer.
