Ronald Reagan Talks About Patriotism

What do you think about Patriotism being alive and well in America? Do you think America's youth understand Patriotism? What do you see for America's future if we do nothing to improve individual patriotism?

Patriotism is giving a damn for this country not some Third World Nation who poses no threat to us. I love this country and it's because I love this country that I think it needs to be tweaked and worked with to make it better.

That sure is the truth, but we need to fight it. I'm working on a blog now to help with that task.

On both sides of the aisle, that's what sometimes we forget in our diatribes at each other. We ALL love this country, we may disagree on the wording of a two hundred year old document..we may have differing views of the US - but that's the point, there's room for all of us here, we're all SUPPOSED to be here, thinking like this, interacting like this, working out our problems.......

My neighbor showed me a hatchet driven into one of the beams in his barn where his ancestor had driven it when he left the farm to fight for our country's birth. It had never been removed from that beam since he set it there. Oh, yes.....patriotism is alive. That hatchet is a serious motivating force for me, and others. I've had an American flag flying over my home 24/7 (illuminated) since 1965.

I grasped that handle, just as he would have when it was driven into that beam, stood 'in his shoes', as it were. He never came back from that war, and in his honor no one has removed that hatchet to this day. It really is awesome - just and old, somewhat rusty old hatchet driven into a support beam of a 200+ year old barn. Someone could so easily remove it and not realize what they had just done.

It really would be, but it's the same family living in that house now as built it then. That hatchet is special to them for sure! If you were a fan of Colonial architecture, you'd LOVE this house.

Can you imagine living in a house that your family built and has occupied since the EARLY 1700's! It was what was called a 'frontier house', and a lush one, indeed. They were a wealthy family and held great aqcerage.

I can imagine that..it can be so sad to lose a house like that with all the history and memories of your family

Hopefully, they won't have to worry about that. Heaven knows they don't have a mortgage!

That's the type of comment I was looking for. I want to write an article about patriotism but I need some good stuff you people, if you don't mind me using your comments.

Go right ahead, Judy. Use the story...it's a true one. I'd rather not give the family name, however. They don't need 'publicity'.

That is such an awesome story. There isn't anything that can spell patriotism better than that!
