Patriotic photo refused; student planning military career prohibited from showing cap, flag....

- At Merrimack Valley High, the yearbook policy prohibits photos like the one Jordan Westgate submitted. He's wearing his army combat hat, and he's standing in front of the American flag. What's the problem? asks Jordan, a senior who completed the Army's basic training last summer.... Read full article »

Looks like the American flag is no longer politically correct. What does this tell us about the liberal idiots that are in control of this country?

Reminds me of a story about a fireman who was disciplined for having a flag sticker on his locker...someone felt it was too Christian...doesn't that sound bizare? But the more I think about it the more I think that is really what it is all about.

I strongly disagree with the policy. That being said if the policy is older than "new" and the family had access to a copy of the policy then it is what it is.

Pretty messed up that a military photo is viewed in the same way as a snapshot of some kid wearing a corona or budweiser cap. And that is probably what caused the policy to be adopted.

I grew up military and I served in the army. I hate the fact that this photo will not be deemed acceptable. What are we coming to as a country?

I don't remember ever seeing any photo of a military man when taken as an official picture NOT wearing his hat as part of his full military dress! I have pictures of my dad, my grandparents, my uncle, and I have seen several friends' albums that all show the same thing when wearing their uniform - the hat is always on!
If the school thinks the Muslim girl had no choice, I think if the principal looked deeper into the subject, he would find that this is as much of a requirement for an official picture as the girl's lack of choice in wearing something covering her head.

Any military members out there who can give credence to this? I would like to know!

Yes, exceptions should be made. It is ok for the Liberalized schools to endoctrinate children with Obama songs but is is not alright to let a patriotic student dress patriotically.

The yearbook picture is an individual and sacred thing. That picture symbolizes how you want to be remembered, who you are on the inside and where you are going in your life. This young man wants to be remembered as a loyal AMERICAN with good values and his mission in life to protect that loyalty and those values.
As far as I am concerned he has put his photo in the yearbook in my heart and will be forever remembered. Thank you Jordan Westgate. My prayers will be with you and Merrimack Valley High will someday come to know what a purely plastic society they are endorsing.

If other students were allowed to show photos of themselves involved in other areas of their live, then he has equal right to do the same thing. The ACLJ can help with that. They can be forced to add a leaflet with his photo in it. Check it out with them. They win stuff like this all the time.

The photo can be used in the yearbook, just not as his main photo. It can be put in the other sections.

Yes exactly. That's what I referred to. It should be able to be used in the yearbook. Seniors usually have their main pic and then a casual or pic of their choice in a separate commemorative area. It would be wrong to prohibit a pic of any senior to be in the yearbook (excluding the main photo or course) unless the picture is lude/obscene. I didn't get from the article that they wanted it to be his main photo. I must have missed that somehow.

Thats wrong and i think completely unacceptable. From what it looks like it is a good picture. He isn't dishonoring the military or the US.

He is showing what he is standing for and his support for our country and i think that the school should have given him the respect enough to show this. He is putting his life on the line and the school wouldn't honor his patriotism in the simplest way of showing his enlistment photo.

wow what happened to America (rhetorical question)?

I used a confederate flag in a recent photo---as I defecated on a rebel soldier's grave and used the flag to wipe myself! None of the backcountry racists and rednecks, who witnessed my protest, DARED CHALLENGE ME! They were SCARED!

Just to let you know, I've seen this fallout...guy/girl in several threads lately and every time he or she makes comments trying to connect everything from astrology to zoology to racism. The comment was undoubtedly contrived to get a reaction so he/she can launch into a tirade about how everyone else is racist. Basically, just another internet tough guy or girl who's probably not worth wasting your time on.
