Just a mistake, no big deal.

Lol!!! I'm just guessing, but judging from the details, she may have been on government insurance, Medicaid maybe, but you bring up a good point. That may have been a factor in how she was treated.

A crazy situation but compared to the hundreds of thousands of "good" operations per year? Hey, sh_t happens. We're only human.

I'm never one to demonized a doctor, but this particular situation really could have been avoided. There seems to have been a series of steps that were neglected and warnings that were ignored.

! I'm guessing, if they thought she was brain dead, they did without the anesthetic. :-)

She was a lucky one. If doctors are blatantly ignoring all the potential signs a patient is improving in this artcle, then it is a big deal, and I wonder how many other living patients have undergone the same procedure, but were not so lucky?

Perhaps doctors are becoming far to eager to harvest organs? Its definite some are, but I would hope most are not.

I clicked the wrong answer, I actually meant YIKES! I am completely for organ donation. I have had friends who died that their organs were donated. It saves lives, but this is why I do not have an organ donation thing on my license. Every case is unique, like this one. Sometimes the organ harvesting team is there in anticipation.

I blame the doctors here. The nurses weren't listened to. How horrible had she been murdered.

I smell lots of $$$ coming to her via malpractice lawsuit.

I agree. I often wonder what doctors true motives are for entering the medical field. It seems like "the individuals care" is not always their main focus. Doctors who ignore patients individual needs, do more harm than good IMHO.
    I don't see things changing either. :-(

Ya...and she commited suicide and was there for depression in the first place. This whole thing had to totally freak her out. I feel bad for the family. My mom told me that when she was little, docs made house calls, forget bedside manner today sometimes.

I don't see anything changing either, it'll be like China, an assembly line of patients just to get em in and out...

One would hope not too often. But with the ways hospitals operate it would be impossible to know if these are honest mistakes or arrogant doctors. It would likely only be possible to quantify if it was fraud. Even then you wouldnt be aware of them all.
