How can Atheists hate god? We do not believe god exists. It is hard to hate something which does not exist. Of course, we do hate what the belief in god or gods does to SOME people and the evil they do because of this belief. I admire the work that Pamela Taylor does and detest the actions of Osama bin Laden, yet they are (were) both Muslims and believe they are serving the same god

Exactly!

And btw, atheists, in general, have the same attitude about all religious belief, regardless of what religion it is. Since you live here, in a majority Christian nation, naturally it will seem like they have special dislike of Christianity.

Why is that? Are you preaching to them?

I'm 65 years old, an atheist myself but the only times it ever really comes up is when a Christian comes up to me to ask "have you heard the word of Jesus?" I can honestly say, although I've been approached in public places - and even on my own front porch - by literally hundreds of Christians "preaching the word" over the years, I have never once in my whole life been approached anywhere by an atheist trying to "convert" me to their way of thinking.

I am not preaching to them, but merely providing a rationale to my opinion, which of course is based on my own beliefs as a Christian. I never "slam" anyone for their own faith, or lack thereof. Please keep in mind that Christians are charged by Christ to fulfill the Great Commission, which is to basically give The Good News to all parts of the world, so they mean no harm or unease.

I'll only speak for myself, but you're right. I target Christianity more than any other religion. That is because RIGHT NOW, Christianity is the largest and strongest religion in the world. By far it is the largest and most oppressive in MY country. That is not to say that ALL Christians are oppressive. Many if not most, are not. But those who oppress, are almost almost always religious, and in this country, that usually means Christian.

You are right that it is the largest in the world, but unlike Islam, it is a faith centered on peace and love. Of course many men will corrupt it with religion, and man-made rituals, but it all centers on one's relationship with Jesus Christ. The book of Matthew, Chapters 5-7 give the real precepts of Christianity.

I have no problem with your relationship with Jesus Christ. I admire the philosophy attributed to him, myself. But regardless what Yeshua (Jesus) actually said, his name has been used as license to oppress for generations, including this one.

A relationship with Jesus Christ is never one of oppression, but rather one of Love and Obedience. Anything else is man-made. And I agree, the hits that Christianity take are in the name of religion, and the legalism that mankind has sought to control others by. I usually suggest the book, "More Than a Carpenter," which gives so much information about what our Faith should be held by, and how it should be exuded to others. notafan.com is a good site to "Define the Relationship" too.

I've read "More Than a Carpenter". I've also read the Bible. and I'm quite certain that you're right. If the Jesus of the Bible was real, he'd never have approved of the acts being taken in his name. But when those who commit these acts, use his name as the authority behind them; those who know the truth have a responsibility to call them out for them, just as many Christians have demanded that the non-terrorist Muslims, have a responsibility to call out the terrorist Muslims for their actions. And in the name of integrity, they have a responsibility to acknowledge that much harm has been done to this world in the name of their religion, even if it was done by slandering the messiah you worship.

I haven't seen anything to indicate that the shooter was an athiest, but most athiests don't go around shooting people, either. There is a lot of hate in the comments for this. God loves everyone.

Wade Michael Page is responsible. at this point, there is no indication what religion he professed - if any. people of all religions hate. Pat among them - as he has demonstrated time after time.

jfwiw, many white supremacists claim to be Christians. So ol' Pat is likely condemning his own. his hate speech probably hasn't helped matters - aamof, it may have fomented some of the violence. we'll never know for sure, of course.
we do know, however, that hate-speech by one often does lead to hate-action by others while the speaker stands back feigning innocence and saying, "Who me? I didn't mean THIS!"

The idiot speaks and his sheeple listen, throwing money his way. A true atheist doesn't hate gods, that isn't in their base of beliefs. Do they even hate? That I don't know. But I do know they dislike fanatical people like Robertson as should we all in a Democratic Republic where we are supposedly all equal. And equality is now a joke needing to be changed to richeequality.

CNN has reported that the shooter used to rant about "radical holy war" to an army buddy of his back in the 1990s when he was serving. So the guy probably wasn't an atheist. It is so irresponsible for Robertson to get on TV and make assertions based solely on his own speculation.

I agree with your sentiment, but opinions are value judgements based on facts. Any real journalist would have no problem talking to a few people who knew this guy and finding out if he was an atheist. Indeed, there is already some reports of an interview with an army buddy that indicates he wasn't. Robertson wasn't expressing an opinion, he was just making stuff up.
