I thought people like Robertson hated people of other religions. :/ Now he blames it on atheists?

I generally make it a point to never agree with Pat Robertson. I find my odds of being right are exponentially higher this way.

I disagree with Pat Robertson, and that's a shameful thing for him to have said. Sikhs are not athiests, they're almost like a combination of Hinduism and Islam. They have some beliefs that are in common with fundamental Christianity also.

They don't hate God OR Christians. They just don't believe in God OR Santa Claus, like the rest of the non-thinkers do.

Well, I have said things like that before. Usually to someone who is using religion to excuse bigotry or genocide or general bad behavior. But it isn't the religion I'm cursing. It's their behavior, and the excuses they use to justify it.

I disagre with people who twist the words of the bible to do so as well or change the bible to their own needs *Cough* Catholics *Cough*

While I agree that Catholics are guilty, don't kid yourself: EVERY denomination of EVERY religion has it's guilty parties.

I know. "For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." I am baptist. I already know Westboro Baptist and the Rainbow Baptists are. I am just using them in this example.

Really? That's weird. I'm an atheist, and I don't hate any imaginary characters, or the people who believe in them. Am I the exception? Are almost all of my friends? Do you have some kind of proof of this claim?

Because the sheep are still watching and lapping up every drop of his hateful observations.
They've made him a very, very wealthy man. Too bad he doesn't give more to the poor and the needy. He's a hypocrite like most of the Bible Thumpers.

I would not characterize myself as a hater, but I am self aware enough to recognize that I despise those who promote hate and ignorance.

Pat Robertson is both deluded and arrogant. Time and time again, he has falsely claimed to know the mind of the divine.

The world will be such a better place when that old bastard finally dies.

They don't hate God but they sure do have a tendency to hate Christians. Most of atheists I would say are closed minded as to the concept that there is a God.

I, personally, don't "hate" members of any religion ... as for being "closed minded as to the concept that there is a God" -- if being viewed as being "closed minded" on a subject/matter that offers absolutely no empirical evidence whatsoever of its existence then, yes, I'm closed-minded as to the concept of there being a "god".

Wade Michael Page is responsible. there is no indication, at this point, as to what religion Page professed - if any.

Leave it to Robertson, however, to politicize a tragedy for his own ends. he has quite a track record in that department. but that is Pat Robertson - - not all Christians.

Atheists don't believe there is a god, ergo, how can you hate something you don't believe exists?

Many vocal atheists hate with a capital H...there is no denying it...just read some posts here on Sodahead. There is a certain "HolySH*T" SH that is forever condemning and ridiculing Christianity, then of course there is a pagan "Duh?!" that hates Christianity. There are several more and they hate with a vengence...all these pollsters that hate Pat Robertson in defense of atheists is rather ironic....to say the least.

some atheists hate. some Christians hate. some Muslims hate. some Hindus hate. some Wiccans hate. even some Buddhists hate - though they seem to be infected less than most [at least to this outsider looking in, they seem to be]. and yes, lots and lots and lots of SH'ers share their hate on a regular basis.
all this has to do with the Sikh shooting, how - - exactly?

I believe Pat Robertson's point was that atheists were responsible for the carnage somehow - - although there is no word, at least at this point, as to what religion, if any, Page held.
many, many white supremacists, jfwiw, profess to be Christian. I'm not saying they ARE - but many do claim to be.

yes, the same people who disparage christianity are the same ones who are saying that atheists don't hate...look at the posters below...all "outraged" by the simple fact that what Robertson said is true...they profess innocence"How could Robertson say such a thing?!!" Well, take a look at Sodahead and it can proven...This white supremacist was no christian, he had hate in his heart.

I disparage the Chicago Cubs, but I don't hate their fans, or even really the players. I disparage the "Twilight" series; but I don't hat the fans or the author. I also disparage people who do stupid or clutzy things; but once again, I don't hate them. I think you Christians would have a much easier time keeping your panties un-wadded, if you would recognize that ridicule doesn't always equal hate.

See, I don't hate you. I just make it a point to remind you, now and then of the undeniable superiority of the St. Louis Cardinals, as proven by our 11 Championships and 18 Pennants; as well as the fact that the last time the Cubs won one, there was no such thing as the chocolate-chip cookie. But I don't hate you.

Christians too, it seems. Every time we ask for proof of God, we get easilly refuted claims, and threats about the Hell we'll have to pay, when Jesus comes back. And this is my point. Like the Cub fan, I don't hate the Christian. I just have what I consider to be a more logical viewpoint. Just as the Cubs fan is perpetually disappointed with their seasons end, the Christian is perpetually disappointed with society, and with the scientific discovery which relegates them deeper and deeper into academic irrelevance. And just as the Cub fan often grows more and more hostile with their superiors (the team down I-55), Christians grow more hostile with atheists, science, and academia. Historically, it is not uncommon for this hostility to evolve into violence. THAT is what I fear. That is why I don't trust organized religion.

personally I don't like it when atheists "preach" and ridicule christians and religion..there are several posters on SH who make it a point to constantly be critical of religion all under the pretext of challenging a christian to prove the existance of something that requires faith. If you don't have it, or choose to accept that premise, that's on you. We have freewill. One of the things that irritates me that Atheists make a big argument is freedom of religion. This argument doesn't translate to Atheists making or forcing a policy of Freedom from Religion to the vast majority of American citizens.

I do agree that extremists from either end of the spectrum irritate the piss out of me....

On my friends list are an overwhelming majority of Christians. I enjoy the debate with them, and for the most part it stays civil. But just as we have some on here who like to ridicule Christians, there are others who spend their time condemning non-Christians. And I assure you, that is equally irritating. I serve in the United States Army, I'm raising 3 kids, all of whom are very well behaved, consciencious, and smart. I'm known by all who do know me as a man of integrity, perhaps to a fault; and as the guy they know they can count on no matter the circumstances. Yet I'm told at least 4 times a week by pius-self-righteous prick; that I can't possibly be a moral man, because I don't believe in God.
Christians, even the good ones, preach. Why shouldn't atheists? Perhaps we should be more loving about it; but why shouldn't we proclaim to the world that based upon our best understanding, there probably is no god; with the same zeal with which Christians proclaim to the world that they've been saved by Jesus Christ and we should be too?

As for freedom of religion, most of us are for freedom of religion. And in order to protect that freedom, we need that wall of separation between church and state. we need religion not to be taught in schools. We need to keep the Ten Commandments out of the courthouse. We need to prevent the Government from favoring any religion over others. It isn't that we want them preaching against religion in schools; but they do need to be honest about what science says. And let the individual decide for himself/herself how it pertains to their beliefs about their god.
