Forget snakes on a plane, what about scorpions?

An Alaska Airlines passenger got the surprise of a lifetime when he was stung by a scorpion on a flight from Seattle to Anchorage.

We thought it was pretty difficult to catch a flight these days, what with volcanic ash and ever rising fees, but not for your average scorpion. Have you ever been confronted by insects on a plane, let alone got stung by one?

Except for maybe some of the passengers. And scorpions are not insects.

Not on a plane, but it's not like they have to go through tsa. and they can be picked up any where that flies to a warm environment - they can live for months without food or water - a scorpions young are carried on the mothers back and can easilly be jostled off if they are kicked or are subjected to anykind of abrupt movement - the bigger they are the LESS potent they are ( in most species ). I have been stung by scorpions four times in fifty years, my wife isn't so lucky - she's been stung five times in six years. It is quite painfull depending on where it stings you and it lingers for a few days ( i've found that the bonier an area is the shorter the amount of time the affects will last ). A good trick is to take " benadryl " or some kind of antihistamene IMMEDIATLY after it stings you so as to curb how far the poison travels throughout the body, i also think it helps nuetralize the poison to some extent, but i'm not to sure about that because as i said before " the area your stung in has a lot to do with how extensive the affects be " !

People will bring wild stuff on flights. I'll be curious to see how many people say something about the TSA on this one.

considering an airplane is too cool for a scorpion normally, I would tend to think it had either been let loose intentionally or else had escaped someones luggage.

If you do an adequate "flight check" on an aircraft, it is better to find them on the ground, than in the air. If you fly out of Arizona, Nevada or California you know who might be your "silent co-pilot".

but I've been stung by a scorpion in TX. It's not as bad as a bee sting. But then what if the scorpion was from Indonesia. Those suckers can kill ya.

Did it have to go through security? Did a TSA agent pat it down? How was it allowed on a plane with an offensive weapon?

I wonder how the scorpions got past TSA. If there was any possible benefit to their grope-a-dope program, this would have to be it. And yet the scorpions pass through unchallenged.
