Parishioners Support North Carolina Pastor’s Plan To Kill Off LGBT People. Is This The Christian Thing To Do?

Last month, North Carolina Pastor Charles Worley made headlines with his remarks that he would rid the world of all LGBT people by putting them behind electrified fences in concentration camps and waiting for them to die off. Now, the church’s parishioners are backing up Worley’s remarks. In an interview with local news outlet WCNC, parishioners say that Worley is "trying to save those people from going to Hell," while another declares, "The Bible says they’re worthy of death."

IS THIS THE CHRISTIAN THING TO DO?

REAL Christians want LGBT people to be saved and go to heaven, just like everyone. We are ALL sinners and worthy of death, but Jesus came so we don't have to die. Jesus never preached killing off anyone...he preached spreading the Good News.

Get the same damn respect as people who identify as straight. Just because you identify as something else doesn't mean you're going to hell. and i don't see why it's anyone else's concern. it's and individual choice

Jesus always preached that God is Love. I don't remember Christ spreading bigotry and hatred anywhere in the Bible. I totally agree with your opinion, that everybody has the right and the opportunity to be saved and go to Heaven, just like self-righteous charlatans such as Pastor Charles Worley and his judgmental congregation. Evidently, Worley gives short shrift to the passage in the Bible that says, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." True Christians don't wish pain, suffering and death on others, nor do they condemn them to Hell. Thanks for your comments, Nemo!

I don't know anymore. One side, Christians are saying horrendous stuff about how gay people are sinners, are somehow "less" than other people, and/or deserve hell; and then you have the other side protesting, saying that "Real Christians don't believe that!" or some variation thereof. Yet, it gets tiring after awhile, because if those people are the new face of Christianity, it no longer matters if all Christians believe that or not-- it's still a facet of Christianity, and it is vile and repulsive.

I am ashamed to live in this state. I live in one of the few sane and tolerant areas. I don't care if you're Christian or not, but to openly declare that certain people deserve to die or be put into concentration camps for being queer makes me wonder just how insane these people are. It makes me sick to my stomach. Are they trying to make another holocaust? Another face of the fear and anger that causes countless asian-americans and asian immigrants to be put into concentration camps? Why does it feel like we haven't advanced in the least?

You bring up an excellent point. Millions and millions of people have been killed in the name of religion -- the Holocaust, the Crusades, the Russian pogroms, etc. I have no respect for any religious zealot, such as Pastor Charles Worley, whose preaching perpetuates hatred, bigotry and condemnation of others. Even those Christians who believe that LGBT's are committing a sin with their sexual orientation and lifestyle don't pray for them to die and go to hell. Worley and his vile minions need to remember that the teachings of Christ were that God is Love, and that everyone is guaranteed the gift of Salvation if they accept Jesus into their hearts as their Lord and Savior and repent of their sins. Every time I think mankind is evolving into higher beings, someone like Worley and his self-righteous congregation come along and blow it all to hell. Why can't we all just get along? Thanks for your very excellent comments, Yuki, and have a beautiful day.

Isn't that technically what Hitler did with the Jews during World War II, thus creating The Holocaust- a genocide of approx. six million Eastern European Jews?

You are correct that the Holocaust, and also the Crusades and the Russian pogroms, were carried out by people who thought they were doing what was "right" in a "Christian" sense. The Dutch Boers who settled South Africa and began the long, vile practice of apartheid considered the African natives the Sons of Ham from the Bible, and thus relegated them to Canaan's curse as "servant of servants...to his brothers." More people in history have been killed in the name of religion than for any other cause. The world doesn't need "Christians" like Pastor Charles Worley and his congregation, people who perpetuate hatred, bigotry and condemnation of others, instead of following Jesus' teachings that God is Love. Thanks for your comments, Jalysa, and have a wonderful day!

I don't think one group of people has the right to judge another, religious or otherwise. People need to quit living in the 12th century where they spot the devil in everything. How about we treat everyone with respect and quit acting like God! Just a suggestion. =)

Although I'm a Catholic, I agree with your opinion that all people deserve to be treated with respect. A person doesn't have to be a Christian, or of any other religion for that matter, to have morals and ethics and a sense of what's right. For instance, I have a good friend who is an agnostic, and he's more spiritual, tolerant and forgiving than all of Charles Worley's vile congregation combined. A true Christian does not wish others to die or condemn them to Hell. Evidently, Worley gives short shrift to the Bible passage that says, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." Honestly, this charlatan is a disgusting example of religious zealotry gone wrong. Thanks for your comments, Lily!

No problem. I try to be polite, even when I don't see eye-to-eye with another person here on SodaHead. To criticize someone who isn't of any religious faith is just as bad as non-believers who rag on Christians. In fact, it's rather UN-Christian of people to spread intolerance and hatred toward others. All people deserve to be treated with respect, whether they're atheists or LGBTs or other such thing.
