Topics:

U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta let slip on Sunday the big open secret that Washington war hawks don’t want widely known: Iran is not developing nuclear weapons.

Appearing on CBS’s Face the Nation on Sunday, Panetta admitted that despite all the rhetoric, Iran is not pursuing the ability to split atoms with weapons, saying it is instead pursuing “a nuclear capability.”

That “capability” falls in line with what Iran has said for years: that it is developing nuclear energy facilities, not nuclear weapons.

Sorry folks this started a hundred or more years ago and damn they are still at it. Like thrill

Do you ever stop to think your silly little saber rattling is taking its toll on this country, Israel said they are not a threat but you war mongers want us to intervene into everything and that is not what this country was founded on.

According to the IAEA inspection report on Iran's nuclear program they do not have nukes nor are they trying to make any either. Additionally, Iran is a member of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and voluntarily exceeds the requirements.

First of all, I appreciate your sources, however. Iran is an Islamic secular state that does not open themselves to the outside world. Do you remember all the BS that went on a decade ago when we tried to go to North Korea? Shifting mirrors and a big shell game? So, Iran showed the IAEA what they wanted them to see, and what the IAEA was obliged to report. This way the IAEA is not on the hook for a war, or airstrike and doesn't make waves with Iran. Russia and China are on record as a matter of fact supplying fuel rods and technology to the Iranians for weapons and power technology. Signing a NPT pact does not mean or do anything for a closed society.

Cool, Iran is not developing the nukes. They are trying to put their first nuclear power plant on line to give Iranians cheaper electricity.
When was the last time we did that? Why didn't we allow building any of nuclear power plants since "then"?
    Oh, hypocrisy.
We think that they want to nuke us whereas they try to nuke themselves with Chernobyl class new plants.
    Silly conservatives.

Let's see. You've got a country with one of the largest oil surpluses in the world and they're willing to risk being attacked to develop nuclear power plants. Give me a break. Panetta's blowing smoke for Obama to try and soften the public backlash after announcing he's going to start cutting the military.

Sorry this is so long but it's time the people understand how the media tells us what are opinions are, how to think, and what to think.

I looked at the reuters article. it was ambiguous and contained some disinformation, lies, and half truths. I'm not going to cover everything suspect in the article. Ambiguous statements: (1) Information was gathered from an intelligence report. What kind of intelligence report? Who wrote it? How did they obtain it? How old was the info..a week, a month, a year, 10 years? (2) West seized documents. What kind of documents, Where, When, and Why.(3) Iran has stonewalled an agency. What agency? When, Where, Why, how.

Misleading (4) IAEA,... Amano's..., document would trigger international action. Leads one to believe there was something to be concerned about.

Misleading followed by a lie: IAEA report assessed Iran was conducting R & D geared towards developing a nuclear weapon. Iran is conducting research and develpoment pertaining to power plant and medicine. Developing nuclear weapons is a LIE. I read the report.

Misleading followed by a Lie: Iran building a uranium enrichment plant in secret.
IAEA was aware of the plant. It was not a secret.

This article is typical of mainstream media (MSM). This trash is fed to us everyday and it's no wonder people take it as fact. After all, journalist have a code of ethics - don't they? No, they don't. None of the media has a code of ethics to tell the truth. Not everyone in the media is dishonest but any information or news that's reported by MSM or our government is suspect. In addition, MSM only tells us what they want us to know. There is a lot of newsworthy information the media fails to tell us. So, it's very important that "We the People" seek out other sources for information.

Quite honestly, we are all getting screwed by our government and so is humanity. Our Gov is starting wars, bombing and invading nations based on lies! Our gov wants to attack Iran to steal their resources - just like they did Iraq. I hope our military has the courage to refuse to comply if they are ordered to attack. I love my country but humanity is more important the country or self.
    -----------------------------...
I'm going to make this quick, to the point, and leave some references so you can check out that what I have said is true.

Iran does not have Nukes. Their nuclear program is for the develpoment of alternative power source. IAEA inspects Irans nuclear program and facilities on a regular basis, to include no-notice. Uranium enrichment is necessary for fuel used for nuclear power. Iran belongs to the Non-Proliferation Treaty and voluntarily exceeds the requirements.

As for stonewalling an agency. I believe the article is refering to the UN. Iran won't allow UN inspectors access but they don't have to and why should they? I have nothing nice to say about the UN.

Panetta, Our government, the CIA, IAEA, Israel, and UN know that Iran is not building nuclear weapons.
