Oh noes! I’m turning conservative!

- nine years ago, I voted... the straight Dem ticket in New Jersey ....who changed: Me, or them? ...I was embraced by the right, even though I’ve never hidden the fact that I’m still pretty much a social liberal... I don’t want my taxes raised... socialized healthcare... more regulations. And I don’t want this nation turning into a nanny state.... Read full article »

Don't feel bad I have been against progressives in Republicans and Democrats progressives like John McCain I do respect his service for the country but he is a progressive. It is time that the people in the grassroots to stand for the Constitution of the United States. Obama portrayed himself as a moderate democrat but look at the people he associated himself alot of the people are at least sypmpathizers for Mao Zetong of China I think that is how you spell his name. Just to give you a little history Theodore Roosevelt a Republican was the first progressive who came into power. so don't feel embarrassed about going to the right the country has always been center right.

Good for you, but the damage done while during the nine years, and before that, has already turned New Jersey into an overtaxed, socialized nanny state

We all must follow our conscience, and when the things we believe in turn out not to be as we expected, then choices must be made. Often the lesser of two evils must be considered. I lost faith in the republican party and call myself a conservative, believing that a little caution is better than a firm resolve at times. There should never be a hurry situation when it comes to new laws.

I too am a recovering Dem-o-holic, and today I am a much happier sort of man.

I work because my skills are in demand, I married because I wish to spend my life with my one true love, I raised 2 children because that was a true pleasure, I built my 4 car garage with my own hands, and I owe None Of The Above to any assistance from the lousy Paternalistic GoBernment, thus I am a proud, multifaceted achiever.

Today I pity the fools who claim to be democrats. lousy paternalistic gobernment proud multifaceted achiever pity fools claim democrats

"The U.S.A. is not run by its would-be 'democratic' government. All the latter can do is try to adjust to the initiatives already taken by [the] great corporations. Nothing can be more pathetic than the role that has been played by the President of the United States, whose power is approximately zero. Nevertheless, the news media and most over-thirty-years-of-age U.S.A. citizens carry on as if the president had supreme power." Buckminster Fuller

The present situation makes me think that his quote is truer than ever. Note that he made no mention of political parties.

The only time that party matters is when going to the polls. Each man is responsible for his own actions, and any political group that works to ignore the law faces terrible consequences when they ARE the enforcers of the law.

Too true, but what would we have without government? Anarchy!

The best solution seems to remain having an actual representative government that is held in tight check so as to keep those 'leaders' from becoming tyrants, and thus keeping them out of most of our business.

I think half of it is keeping the government out of the public's business, the other half is keeping business out of the public's government.

I can agree with about 70% of your statement as there remains many businesses working to keep Big GoBernment out of their business. It isn't as if there are businesses working to get Big GoBernment to force Americans to buy their products, eh?

Also, never forget that most of those businesses are run by Americans. They have a right to petition government when they feel acosted. ;o)

Well, China and Soros have certainly bought large portions of our government, but when Americans do so, and I'm not talking about the really BIG Corporations, I don't find that to be terribly offensive.

You see, they may buy influence, but they cannot buy the vote of ANY Real American. ;o)

Sounds like my story as well. Campaigned for Mondale/Ferraro, even. The best way to describe my viewpoint now is Libertarian Conservative. You are not alone.

Seems to me liberals are wanting to take away our rights.
Take away our right to gun ownership.
Take away our right to choose what type of car to drive.
Take away our right to decide if we want to eat "healthy" or not.
Take away our right to choose our own healthcare.
Liberals by definition claim to be inclusive and want equal everything for everybody, but in fact it is just lip service because they really want the government to control every aspect of our lives.
So when people finally figure that out, we conservatives will be here with open arms to welcome them.

"That was when I realized that the left-leaning crowd I ran with was full of anti-Semites who call themselves anti-Zionists."

It continues to perplex me that the Jewish folks continue to support this party that for the most part do not respect their culture nor religion.

Do they find profit in the liberals corruption or do they simply revel in the liberals contempt for christianity? Either way the short term benifits they gain will be short lived if capitalism is diminished...

Being a Conservative isn't so bad. I consider myself a Conservative, but I'm definitely not right wing. There's nothing wrong with wanting the right things for our country, we just have to be aware that going too far left or too far right is not one of those "right' things.
