Off-Duty Officer Assaulted After Showing Badge
CLEVELAND — An off-duty Cleveland police officer was assaulted after identifying himself and showing his badge.
According to Sgt. Sammy Morris with the Cleveland Division of Police,
the incident happened at 2:30 a.m. on Monday in the 1400 block of W. 9th Street.
The off-duty officer was escorting two women to their vehicle when they were approached by two men in car.
When the men began to harass the women, the officer showed his badge and told the men to stop.
The men allegedly ignored the officer’s instruction, got out of their car and assaulted him, Cleveland police said.
The men then left the scene.
When on-duty officers responded to the incident, the off-duty officer was found sitting on the curb, bleeding from the mouth.
EMS took him to MetroHealth Medical Center where he was confined.
