ODNR Says Black Bear Sightings Are Expected to Rise

AKRON, Ohio – Officials with the ODNR Division of Wildlife say that
black bear sighting are expected to rise in the summer months.
Officials warn that starting in May and continuing through August ,
young male black bears will disperse in an effort to find their own
territory.
ODNR officials say that in 2011, approximately 38 different black
bears were confirmed in Ohio. The ODNR says that as many as 60 black
bears are living in Ohio year round.
Most black bear sighting occur in northeast and southeast Ohio, says
the ODNR. In northeast Ohio specifically, a total 97 sightings were
reported in 13 counties.
