Nadya “Octomom” Suleman may have sworn that she would never ask for government assistance. But even the extra money she made posing nude for Closer magazine wasn’t enough to keep her off welfare.

The mother of fourteen is now receiving $2,000 a month from the State of California. The money is deposited into a special debit card account and can only be used to purchase food. Suleman qualified for the card because she is supporting a family of fifteen on an income of less than $119,000 a year—or just under $8,000 for each member of the household.

In 2010, a year after giving birth to octuplets, Suleman said that she refused to become “a self-fulfilling prophesy” and vowed to stay off welfare. When asked why she has reversed her position, Suleman told TMZ that “becoming totally destitute” left her with no other options and that she plans to go off food stamps in a couple months.

Since news of her decision to accept welfare broke, reactions have been mixed. Some are supportive of her decision to put her children before her pride. Others, however, are irate and are evening sending Suleman death threats.

Never going to happen. I'll stick with falling whistles and the ASPCA. Organizations that deserve help. Emotionalizing this issue by painting a picture of babies in a road (which isn't going to happen either way) isn't going to hit any soft spot in my heart. She gets her 2k to take care of them, they are not left uncared for, but I still have the right to my disgust for this woman. And all it stirred up was the experiences I've had with people like this. Popping out babies and expecting a handout. Give me a break..

Also, in what way do you think I was making light of this? I clearly wasn't. And not everyone criticizes people because of their own issues. It doesn't always work like that.

I noticed in your original comment that the woman disgusts you. You did not say that you disgust yourself. You may disgust Nadia, even though I suspect that she does not have the time to criticze you. She originally said she did not want to have to accept gov. assistance. However, it is there when she needed it. It you started a business and put in all of your money and effort and it fails......then the assistance will be there if you need it.

Of course she doesn't. I however do have plenty of free time. You see I didn't pop out 14 kids like a damn rabbit that I could't care for. I'm sure she wouldn't care, but it's still my opinion and the opinion of many people. This is an opinion poll website, what did you expect? She doesn't give a damn about what I'm saying just as much as she doesn't care what YOU have to say. And yes of course assistance is always there, but that doesn't mean it should be taken advantage of.

Also I don't disgust myself, so why would I say it?

Disgust is a harsh word people always like to throw easily around about OTHER people, but never at themselves. When you began to find the good in people rather than focusing so much on their bad, then you can appreciate the good in yourself a little better, which makes the world a better place for everyone.

I see good in people when it's there, and the positive outweighs the negative. I'm entitled to my opinion of this woman, whatever it may be. And disgust isn't a word I just throw around either.

Being Irresponsible and blaming others for acting stupidly is the Liberal way. Now the taxpayers of California <<< A state 100% broke because its ran by Liberals and the taxpayers who are already TAXED ENOUGH already will be forced to pay for those babies. Californian's never LEARN. They should wise up over there and vote Conservatives in so that people will be forced to WORK and be RESPONSIBLE instead of relying on others to do for them what they should do for themselves. In order to get people out of poverty one must make them UNCOMFORTABLE in it.

I think we can all agree that this woman has a loose screw and she should be held accountable and responsible for producing what she could NOT financially provide for as wall as providing stability for these children. Personally I think 25 years of hard physical labor at Tent City in Arizona would be a good place to start.

Oh well for some reason I am not surprised although I don't find Jolie cute let alone pretty. IMO she is weird looking and she looks like a pale walking skeleton.

I have to work like heck to keep weight on but I don't understand why the Hollyweirdo's think that starving themselves is fashionable let alone cool. She looks like death.

She couldn't even afford the kids she had. There must be no oversight in these matters at all. She was unmarried, unemployed with six kids. In vitro is very expensive. How did she pay for it I wonder? I don't get it Jean.

I don't even feel sorry for her. She is the perfect example of modern irresponsible parents and americans. No investment in the future, everything is instant gratification. It is sad, but can't really feel sorry for someone who brought it upon themselves.

There is no correlation between first ammendment rights for griping about someone's idiotic behavior that does in fact impact costs to the public and being willing to take on additional disproportionate cost resulting from the initial idiocy.

You have zero right to attempt to curtail someone else's opinion in this matter.

I didn't create their problem. I'm not in any way responsible for fixing their problem. I sleep just fine at night.

You are the one who started attacking. Sure she made a huge mistake but the children do not deserve to be mistreated by people who do not agree with their mother. I am not enabling her behavior....that is already past. She has admitted she was wrong so she has a very full life ahead of her. She is their mother and I want the best for all children, included yours.

I guess my since of sorrow for her is this... she has no plan, and no one came along side her 10-20 years ago and taught her how to be self sufficient.
